    Wow, that deck looks amazing.... hope mine turns out just a nice. One thing is, is there not a problem in having the deck higher than the house's DPM ? I was advised that if this is done there can be problems with damp due to splashback from rain..... ?

    its not a large lawn, about 50' 30' and it does appear to be clay soil. I have done some research on the net, and it seems like the best solution would be to a) dig a large soak away b) create some drainage tracks to the soak away c) as posted above, adding grit and compost to the area...

    Just wondering if it is possible/advisable to plaster over MDF. Reason: I have boxed in some pipes using MDF board and would like to smooth over some of the ahem 'rougher' edges that maybe I didn't get quite flush. It would also help with the gaps around the walls where they are not sqaure...
