What shall I do with this?

Hi Crockett, sorry for the delay been doing some other stuff that thankfully doesn't involve plumbing! This was how the d**khead plumber was originally going to do it but was asked by me not to as the MI states that their hoses must be used. The pump gives a little kick when it starts and I...

What shall I do with this?

Thanks Crockett, I'll get over it. Fortunately I know some very good tradesmen so all faith is not lost. As you say he'll get his comeuppance one day - what goes around comes around etc... Meanwhile, back on the objectives of what I do next. Here's the plan. Screw the slab to the floor...

What shall I do with this?

Hi Crockett, He came back to fix a leak on the toilet soil pipe and made such a mess of it - I don't want to risk getting him back to fix anything else. So far I've spent two weekends sorting out rotating taps on the bath, removing the toilet and refitting it with correct components, remaking...

What shall I do with this?

He told me how expensive it was as if I would be impressed! That was the day before he screwed up the toilet and got barred from the house.

What shall I do with this?

I shall have a closer look at this - the tank wasn't part of his installation. The insulation was removed for the job but left off. Its redundant I made sure he followed the MI as initially he wanted to do something else. The static head is compliant with MI and the feed from the...

What shall I do with this?

The pump kicks in fine and there are no air lock problems. Its just in my opinion a bit weak on flow. But then the shower waste doesn't drain as well as it should - this has issues too - currently a subject of another post!

What shall I do with this?

Hi Chris, The MI states 22mm all way through. I am a bit disappointed with the flow - its not a particularly powerful jet of water - certainly not making the most of the settings on the shower head. I'd have thought the reduction to 10mm would make a difference? I'm thinking of doing...

    New shower not draining

Not having tiled it myself there is a possibility. How can you tell?

What shall I do with this?

Here's the proffesionally installed shower pump in my loft. What shall I do with it? I realised this weekend that the flow is restricted by the 2 flexi-hoses the plumbers put linking the 22mm pipes. The ID of the flexi hose has got to be less than 10mm? Thing is -...

    New shower not draining

After I wrote the post I spotted some similar postings with fall rates defined. The problem for me is going to be proving the point with the tart of a plumber that did the install. Give him the benefit of the doubt I've bought a plunger so will give that a go tonight. I'm posting a picture...

    New shower not draining

I have a newly installed Bathstore Atlas shower which is not draining at the same rate as water goes in. Even if the trap in the shower tray is disassembled the water is still not drawn away. Water sits in the waste with the level going up an down as if there's an airlock. I am going to...

    Advice on Radiator Positioning

It was a complete new installation - the radiator is new and in a new position. The floor was taken up and new pipes laid.

    Advice on Radiator Positioning

Crockett, thank you for the guidance. This will be a job for another weekend. Now I know it is possible to solder that close to the floor and where/how to position the radiator I feel a lot more confident. Thanks As for the pictures - here's one of the rad and the poor excuse of the toilet...

    Waterproofing a MDF bath panel

Three coats of yacht varnish did the trick. It took till the 3rd coat for the varnish not to be absorbed into the mdf. Can't say the varnish brought out the beauty of the grain but its made the cheap & nasty stuff waterproof. Thank you all for the advice

    Advice on Radiator Positioning

Hi Lunat (I'm still chasing air around the heating system!) 4" from the floor seems sensible to me and matches the rest of the radiators in the house. I like the idea of the foil - I can see that working. Getting the plumber back to hang his radiator properly is a topical one. I made a...

    Advice on Radiator Positioning

A radiator has been installed in my bathroom and I question its installation. It is a double radiator with fins 700mm x 600mm. Its been mounted just 2" off the floor - it means when you sit in the bath you can see the 4" skirting could not be fitted behind the rad - so you see a bit of bare...

    Waterproofing a MDF bath panel

Thanks for the advise. I'll slap some yacht varnish on as I have some of that. Out of PVA at the moment. Cheers

    Waterproofing a MDF bath panel

Anyone got any ideas on how I waterproof the cut ends of mdf panelling? Had to remove the paneling from a newly "profesionally" installed bath to resecure the taps - water ingress into the mdf has occured already. Before I put the panels back I want to seal their end-grain (if you can call it...

    Air in Heating System

Hi Lunat Lost my thermocouple so no temperature measurements possible - yet. Had to turn the boiler up tonight as the heat output from the radiators was insufficient to heat up the house up. Its set on 3 so not as high as it used to be. I stuck with the 15/60 as I assumed as 7/8's of...

    Air in Heating System

Heating's been off for a while and all was cold so so I clicked the room stat. The boiler stat was set at 3 (with the old pump used to be in on 4) wound it down to 2.5. Held fingers on flow and return - just as flow was starting to hurt my finger the boiler cut-out. So, I think the boiler...
