Screwing wood plank to steel support

OK so maybe do the marking out the Japanese way - set a centre reference line and work from that rather than an edge? Also if the variance of the front edges is only a few mm then I would be inclined to plane them even - if the boards are at all waney you could just plane the top 10-15mm to...

    Will decking stain stain cushions?

Not that it helps in this case but I know the osmo deck oil doesn't stain cushions etc.

    10mm too much

Another option for flattening/planing them down is to use a router sled - Matt Cremona and the Wood Whisperer have good videos on youtube on doing this.

    What Is It ?

Spalted something as others have said - I'll hazard a guess given it's pale colour otherwise as maple (could also be beech) but it's impossible to tell from that photo. If you post a few good pics on https://www.woodtalkonline.com/ including one of cleaned up end grain you will probably get a...

Advice on staircase prep and DIY painting pls

What gc1967 says - in addition I googled instruction vids for fast flow and the crown expert recommends applying it with a medium pile (mini) roller and laying it off with a loaded brush, this is what I've been doing and it works pretty well but may depend on how intricate your spindles are.

    Welding

Was about to say this - it'd be quite a hazard for anyone with a pet or small child as they could just roll underneath the lower guard. If I recall correctly there's no time limit on enforcement/action if what you've done is unsafe although this may only apply to structure??

    Slippery decking

I'd add that on my deck the osmo anti slip lasted 2 years before needing reapplying.

    Slippery decking

Osmo anti-slip decking oil but you need to hang a tarp underneath while applying as it wont do life in the pond any good if it falls in as a liquid! If you've got expensive fish in the pond then I'd avoid it and go for the normal osmo decking oil - the anti slip contains solids (grip) and...

    MFT/Parf/Paulk

Not really as it solves things that are more related to US style usage (removal of guards, knives etc etc) but if you've got rid of your table saw because of having an accident that you don't want to repeat..?

    MFT/Parf/Paulk

Well if expensive is an option is a sawstop saw something you'd consider (assuming you could get one in the UK!)

Been painting over wallpaper and having trouble?

Not quite what I was told to do - cut in with a brush then go over it immediately with a mini roller, you won't get right into the edge but it helps blend the paint in for when you come back with the large roller. Other thing I'd suggest is close the window/doors. I try to avoid using any...

Been painting over wallpaper and having trouble?

What paint are you using - I've had this from Dulux Diamond Matt before - I think it's to do with the paint drying at different rates between brushing on and rollering. It could also be because your cut in edges are fully drying before you roller? I got round it (in a downstairs cloakroom) by...

Confused by screws - wanting to get kitted out

I'd go for a turbogold trade case. I ususally use my combi drill but I also use an impact driver - Impact drivers have their uses so if you're getting one I'd definitely get a Wera Impaktor Tri-Torsion Bit Holder - they're not cheap but will save your bits. I've got a selection of wera and...

Future proofing home/making smart with technology

I'd run some cat6 cable from a convenient central point (needs power, under stairs etc) to about 3 or 4 points in the house - I'd also consider making a cable access point on the outside so that you can hook up a garden office without too much trouble. Decide where you want your main router to...

12" (or bigger) paint trays and liners

Get a cheap silicone spatula from home bargains/ the range etc for squegeeing unused paint out of the tray/scuttle if you don't use a liner of some sort. You want to avoid washing too much paint down the drain as it's not exactly environmentally friendly once it hits the water treatment works!

    Streaky ceilings

I've been using armstead contract matt on ceilings recently and it does a pretty good job at ~half the price of Dulux super matt.

    What paint to use,??

Some watered down latex-free emulsion isn't going to hurt but I think you may find that you'll always be able to see the edge of the patches regardless of how many coats you apply. I'd grab a tub of contract matt (armstead etc), do a mist coat then roller on a proper coat and see what it looks...
