Is it worth using a basin waate seal kit?

These kits seem to be Marmite. One issue I've had with them is if the threaded part of the waste fitting is quite short, then there isn't room for them I prefer to fit waste into basin, then put plenty of silicone around gap between waste and basin, then fit washer, then vcrucially, put plenty...

    High labour rates for boilers

Intersestlingly enough, one of the most expensive installers is BG. Most independant installers can do the same job as them for around half the price, presumably because of their massive overheads. The house in which I now live had a new boiler fitted 15yrs ago by BG, I have all the paperwork...

Boiler pressure gauge reading the word bar

For your info, a Bar is a metric measure of pressure, roughly equal to 15psi, does that help? It is usual to pressurise heating sytems to around 1-1.5 bar so that the boiler doesn't dry fire and self destrust. Most, but not all boilers have a low pressure sensor in them which won't allow them to...

Correct inserts for plastic to copper?

One is supposed to use the correct inserts according to make of pipe. Eg, Speedfit inserts won't go in Hep pipe because it has a thicker wall. I think that as long as you've got an insert in, you'll be fine. Others will, I'm sure disagree.

    High labour rates for boilers

Ok, I'll try and answer the question, Market forces allow us to do so, simple as that. I did a boiler swap yetsreday, similar situation, I'd checked it out carefully beforehand, (clean system, downstairs boiler etc etc), started at 8.30, finished for 12.30, £700 in my pocket, then went and did...

Leak on Unvented Cylinder / Central Heating - A Puzzling Situation

I wonder if a tiny split in the cylinder opens up enough for water to seep through when its contents are hot/warm? Sounds like it could be a leaking cylinder connection wheere the heating pipes enter it, hence loss of pressure in heating system. Could be tricky to find if the connection is...

    2port zone valve wiring connections?

It doesn't really matter which way they go, what happens is that as the valve opens, a microswitch is closed which connects grey and orange together.

    Problems sealing compression fittings.

We are not allowed to use brass olives on LPG (gas) pipework, that about sums them up.

    Problems sealing compression fittings.

I always use copper olives, brass go in the scrap bin, as said above, if you get a weep, undo nut and wrap a couple of turns of PTFE around olive, never fails.

Smell around boiler only when off

Is it possible that the condensate pipe (which may be teed into a drain) is allowing odours into the room, which may smell like gas? Eg, there may be an air gap installed on the condi pipework.

    Remeha Boiler Not Firing Up

I just had a quick look thrtough the book online and couldn't see a pressure sensor. I would have thought there is one, something is telling the PCB there's not enough pressure? They are usually easy to spot, and easy to bridge out just for test purposes.

    Remeha Boiler Not Firing Up

I rareley come across these boilers, but logic would dictate that the boiler thinks it has no pressure, so I would be looking at the pressure sensor.
