    Table Saw Vs Mitre Saw

I'd love to see how thats calibrated to do mitres suitable for fine furniture. Hammer is reasonable stuff for the money but I cant stand their sales process! You ask one question and then get about 100 phone calls a year where they refuse discounts and then you turn up at a trade show...

    Plywood Ceiling Quote

Notch, hope you dont mind me asking, but do you know of a supplier in the UK for S grade ply? I know its used for say, premium toy manufacturing and so on, but its like hens teeth to get ahold of so I've had to make do with B/BB most of the time. I even had one timber merchant chuckle when I...

    Plywood Ceiling Quote

I'd consider £500 rather cheap to achieve anything remotely close to the photo magicmushroom posted even on your smaller area. Theres a lot of prep work involved and then the ply needs accurately machining on site once the ideal layout has been agreed upon. Then theres the cost of the...

Best way to repair bottom of door frames.

I understand you dont worry. I'm not sure about the routing though. In terms of clamping, it's a small area to clamp and if a clamp failed, you'd have an MDF missile to rival north korea. If you screwed it down, how would you do it whilst ensuring there was no danger of the router bit...

Nest + Danfoss - Compatible? How to install?

30 seconds later. It had fallen down the back of my desk. Right. In the Nest manual the wiring diagrams are for: 230v combi boiler, Low voltage/dry contact combi boiler, S plan, Y plan, Opentherm boiler and District heating with electrical control valve. S plan has two motorized valves, one...

Nest + Danfoss - Compatible? How to install?

Despite having installed the Nest only yesterday, I've misplaced the booklet o_O From memory, theres gravity fed, Y plan, S plan, combi boiler, some other type of combi boiler and maybe one other. I'll update this if I can find the guide. It cant be far away.

    Table Saw Vs Mitre Saw

Mind elaborating? I'm not sure what you mean. Are you talking about a table saw jig?

Out of interest, how would you rebate such a small piece of MDF?

    Need advice buying a jigsaw.

Y'know, in all honesty, I think if I was to advise someone on the most useful power tool to buy to start working with sheet goods, a track saw would be top of my list. They are so much safer and easier to use than circular saws and as long as the person has a decent bench to work off, there are...

    Need advice buying a jigsaw.

Hmm, maybe if you're a kitchen fitter that would be its main use, but they are widely used for working with sheet goods and in furniture making or other disciplines to replace or compliment a table saw. With the right bench and accessories, they are very versatile indeed.

Nest + Danfoss - Compatible? How to install?

I'm not qualified to give you advice beyond having been through it myself this week, but the first thing you need to do is identify the type of central heating system you have so you can determine the wiring you will need. In the back of the nest booklet it has wiring diagrams for each type of...

    Need advice buying a jigsaw.

I'd be looking at buying a decent tracksaw. Makita do one. Decent tools are not cheap, but they will work, be more accurate and allow you to keep more of your hair in the long run. Without knowing how much use you'd get out of it and your longer term plans, its difficult for anyone to give...

    Need advice buying a jigsaw.

I re-read my post and I think it came across wrong. I didnt mean to sound harsh at all. What I was driving at is what is the ultimate use you intended to put the jigsaw to. Jigsaws are for cutting curves in relatively thin materials, with the odd exception at the top end of the market i.e...

    Beginners woodworking

It's not about making errors, its about how you overcome them! Getting a high quality set of basic tools appropriate to the intended application would be where I'd advise anyone to begin the journey.

Creating thick posts from smaller timber

A few things here that I think are worth a mention. Timber from Wickes, the plastic wrapped stuff, is generally pretty awful. It's OK for some uses, but for laminations you may struggle for several reasons. It's young timber and it's fast dried in a kiln, so its unlikely you'd find two pieces...

Fit shelves using sticks like s*** or No Nails

Not worth the risk. If it's into a typical plasterboard type wall covering, then use a decent plasterboard fixing for light load shelving. Don't forget to factor in the weight of the shelves themselves. I tend to use spring toggles for this sort of thing. You can buy these from just about...

    Need advice buying a jigsaw.

What do you need a jigsaw for OM2? I guess since you've bought one it might be a moot point, though. My guess, you'll post back in few days complaining the blade is deviating from your cut line on the underside hehe.

Worth getting a block plane if have normal plane?

You'd be better off getting a 1960's Stanley from ebay for that sort of money. Virtually brand new ones from that period still get put up for sale fairly regularly. I bought one a year or two ago. Just remember, as with any plane, to give it a tune up before use. Flatten the sole etc. A...
