    Bathroom spur plan - okay?

Do you mean via a bedroom? As for spurring off the ring, would make sense to make the first connection to be a 13A FCU so you can supply whatever with it then.

It sounds like you just want this hassle over and done with (and who can blame you), but he has scheduled the work in by arranging for his staff to work in your home!

Electrics in kitchen cut out if I use more than 3 appliances

absolutely, yes. I would be inclined to remove the supply to the under floor heating.

I feel for you. You are paying £150 over what the job is worth (on the basis you say its now £150 more than the other quotes you obtained), although he has put himself in an awkward position by badly managing this. You have consequently spoken with nic and he knows this. Assuming you pay him...

ah this is what i feared for you: paying £150 more than the going rate :( I would be inclined to call him/her and explain that whilst you are grateful he arranged for his staff to work evenings to slot in with your kitchen work it was on the understanding as a registered firm with nic you would...

Evo - did you get anywhere with this today? I am not trying to justify the way this has been dealt with, but is the price you paid the electricians + the £150 fee to the owner inline with quotes for this work?

sounds like you have paid the electricians for the work directly and now need to deal with the company registered with nic. to use an analogy, if you had your car repaired by someone working in the local MOT centre but wanted an MOT certificate... that would need to come from the tester...

its really just the name of the process. your electrician will complete the necessary details online via their scheme provider which goes to the local authority who provide the paperwork through the post.

true! Good call. I am sure trading standards also take a different view when customers buy their own parts, i.e tuff if there are problems in the future.

If you call the board manufacturer (which you mention is wylex) they will ask you for the breaker details and who has stock of the RCBO equivelent in your area. Its likely to be TLC or Wilkinson which are open to the public. I am amazed the sparks are asking you to do all this to be honest!

I feel your pain! The grid switches may be single or double pole, so you could try turning off all the grid switches, see if it settles and then turn on one at a time. Unfortunately, if they are single pole, turning them off will not help pin point earth leakage causing your RCD to go because...

    spotlight woes..

hi nat. has anything been done recently which may have disturbed the wiring to the lamps? You are going to need test gear to get to the bottom of this. Is this something you are planning to do?

hi john, sorry i didn't finish that statement off properly! I should have added that it was only person (not me!) in the room at the time who couldn't get his head around it!

    Fused spur in cloakroom.

Sorry to hi-jack this thread but i recently heard a similar conversation regarding a towel rail where the rail was within zone2 (and suitably rated) but the FCU outside it (inside the bathroom, although outside any zones) which went on for a while!

    spotlight woes..

hi. so only 2 out of the 6 lamps are working? Can you put one of the working LEDS in a non working fitting to confirm? If not, its going to be a matter of disconnecting them and some trouble shooting with a tester. Is it wired conventionally, i.e one or two switches for all the lamps, or are...
