    no circulation

If this happened over night; I would say pump, diverter valve, 2 or 3 port valves broken. If it took a long time, getting slowly worse i'd say sludge build-up. When you drain it if the water is really black, it's sludge.

    some radiators not working

Don't see how a radiator can "come on" if the flow is completely turned off. I suspect that you turned the first one down, but did not close it completely. Turn both taps, on one radiator to the right, to close. With both taps closed it cannot heat up at all, unless the taps/valves are broken.

If a lot of sludge is present in the system, the down feed section on open vented systems tend to have hard build-ups of sludge. If sludge is not present in system this build-up cannot happen, because it is made of sludge. If you cut it out and clean that section without removing sludge from...

    Ferroli 701 boiler not working

Could also be a diverter valve or DHW sensors. Ge the manufacturer, they have parts with them.

about to get a new heating system - what am I missing

You will need to power flush the system when the work is done, to get rid of the flux and installation debris (copper filings and bits of lead) before it causes problems or create sludge.

    Central Heating Help

If there is loads of sludge in the system (water brown or black) you might have a build-up of hardened sludge, where the down feed and vent pipe is plumed into the return pipe before the pump. The hard build-up can cause air to be sucked down the vent pipe because sludge is blocking the down...
