Flooring looks untreated - advice please

Hi, I've got a newbuild flat and the hardwood floor looks untreated. I wonder if you can tell from the picture Is there a consensus as to what is the best way to treat real wood flooring? Thanks

    Front Drive - Solution? !! UPDATE !! (14th Apr)

The tree seems quite mature...but not sure if roots will move over the years. Everything being said makes perfect sense and for my drive, there appears to be no ultimate solution apart from a fully 'flexible' loose gravel drive. Since my parents don't want that... I think the reinforced concrete...

    Front Drive - Solution? !! UPDATE !! (14th Apr)

erm i'm new here... and attempting to understand a large-ish project. And if there were areas I can give back, then I would contribute. If you think that newbies should contribute straight away on a forum with lots of experts, it's asking a bit much dont you think. Makes it a rather closed...

    Front Drive - Solution? !! UPDATE !! (14th Apr)

Ahhh... OK, i think the most obvious first thing to do is to cut off that offending root since its the most superficial one and somehow treat it a bit to stop it growing. Essentially, the roots mean nothing to this project then - since we all think that nothing will stop roots in...

    Front Drive - Solution? !! UPDATE !! (14th Apr)

well, if we use 150mm of DTp then it should be ok... I'm not sure if it's clay underneath, but cars have been on it for over a decade now, so its pretty impacted down. I mean, if the DTp isnt good enough and the cement/concrete wont hold a root, then how are we to deal with the drive...

    Front Drive - Solution? !! UPDATE !! (14th Apr)

Hmmm I thought about it in the same way too. Pavingexpert.com was very convincing when they spoke of the importance of sub-bases. Incidentally, the builders said that 100mm compacted DTp sub-base would not be able to withstand 4X4's coming in and out of our drive (a few times everyday...its...

    Front Drive - Solution? !! UPDATE !! (14th Apr)

Any advance on telling them to just get on their equine vehicle and depart?? Opinions on their methods and whether they could work and last a decade+ would be nice! Thanks!

    Front Drive - Solution? !! UPDATE !! (14th Apr)

I've asked for 2 somewhat experienced guys to take a look at my drive. FIRST BUILDER: He says that the present surface+concrete will have to all come up. Then the layers will be as follows: 1) thin sand base 2) 100mm cement mixed with hardcore 3) ~60mm sand layer 4) blocks Now the...

    Front Drive - Solution? !! UPDATE !! (14th Apr)

Any ideas to the suggestion of placing more sub-base (>100mm) than usual on this drive due to the roots/previous experience of the surface lifting??

Roofing solution for an outdoor walkway/porch??

The plywood would need to be treated with something like Cuprinol Clear?? Is one layer good enough? If there's too many struts, it may look a bit too "prison-like", is there any way to reinforce it with another method??

Roofing solution for an outdoor walkway/porch??

looks like toptec's method is different to the one in the picture i posted. They didnt have a second strip - only a gutter and then the main sheet. I will ask the supplier about a DVD... reading text or having a few pics isn't gonna cut it for something like this. If I have the stuff, I'll...

    Wooden door preservative

Hi, I need to treat a wooden door with preservative. I've looked around a lot and not found one that's been reputed to be good AND available readily in the UK. Apparently Cabot products are very good, but it's very scarcely available here as far as I know. And I've heard that Cuprinol isn't...

Roofing solution for an outdoor walkway/porch??

Umm well for a total beginner trying to understand, the Delston site isnt the clearest.. so my questions are: 1) Gutter strip is of EPDM material also? 2) STEP 4 = "EPDM positioned 6" back from gutter edge and tacked to the outside edge of sheet" - if its 6" back, does that mean it's...

    Front Drive - Solution? !! UPDATE !! (14th Apr)

I have a theory... that the roots are wrapped around a leaking joint from our own house, and not the neighbours! Well are there any advantages to having concrete underneath if we're doing block paving?? A few people I've asked said "yeah let's redo the current concrete and do blocks on...

    Front Drive - Solution? !! UPDATE !! (14th Apr)

Thanks freddymercury for that link, I've been there before and I've looked through it. So I know what to do regarding that aspect. I'd like to know more about the 2 questions in my previous post still though! Thanks again

Roofing solution for an outdoor walkway/porch??

OK so EPDM is pretty tough and commonly used and there's guides to show how it's done. Two questions. 1) the edging of epdm looks really complicated. I don't understand how to fit a skirting over the gutter and then use the main sheet to hammer it, drape it over the edge and then flip it...

    Front Drive - Solution? !! UPDATE !! (14th Apr)

Pavingexpert.com had an amazing resource thanks!! My next question is, the root of my tree - as you can see in the picture, the tree must have enourmous roots. Does anyone think this is the cause of the concrete upheaval?? Keeping that in mind, will it be best for my drive if I use...
