The humming is continuous as long as the boiler is 'on' mode and it is not called upon to heat water or central heating. Then it is of course drowned out

Never had a combi, but my daughter has had two at the last places she lived. However, they appear to be working differently. At the previous address, with the heating off and water on, the boiler was silent until she turned the hot tap on, and then it fired up, and this is how I expected it to...

I took my car in to have some minor accident damage assessed and was staggered to be told I needed a new engine. Apparently there is a recall on a batch of 208s to have the lateral crankshaft play checked. The margin allowed was 0.5m and mine was 1mm, so a new engine it was. Got that sorted...
