    'FAO Shytalkz:- Rafter Span question

Hi, someone recommended i ask you this question as you may be able to help a little. Scenario/Info: Currently in the planning stages, already submitted and approved by planning office, but not yet submitted for building regulation, however the building inspector has visited and given a...

    span tables

ok, will do. its too hot and late here to concentrate properly on it right now, but from what i read so far, i can see why people get it wrong if they dont sit down and read it properly like you said I have a couple of avenues left to me yet, but it is looking more and more likely that the...

    span tables

thank you, i will have a read through that :) just a quick question, that says 1991 edition, is the info still the same/pertinent ? i basically have a 16 degree pitch planned on one half of the house, to replace the original rear roof, this requires 3 purlins and one of them is basically...

Pressure problem with a Grohe Thermostatic shower

:( i hate that, when people say they will call back and then dont bother - sorry to hear that they did that, as i have to call them about something soon too. Asking your plumber is always a good idea, as he will have amassed a fair bit of experience over the years and could save you some...

Pressure problem with a Grohe Thermostatic shower

could this be a flow rate issue rather than a pressure issue ? what size are the feed pipes for the shower ? how is it running just cold water? are there any non-return valves fitted ? the Grohetherm 2000 is a 1/2" inlet/outlet shower, designed for high pressure, correct ? Have you called...

Leading on from drilling tap holes

could you maybe go for a 4 piece set ? like this.... That would allow you to use the 2 existing holes, and then simply add extra holes for the outlet and handset ?

Drilling a bath to fit taps

get a few sheets of cardboard, like from a cereal pack, or the back of a pad of paper and then make some test templates, trying them as you go, once you have one your happy with use that... you can always get more card easier than a new bath ;)

Drilling a bath to fit taps

if you are handy at making things like that, maybe make one spacer out of a thick piece of plastic to fit on the underside and cover across both holes, and give you the clearance you need for the nuts ? you can always have a couple of goes at that, but re-shaping the bath is a one hit deal

Drilling a bath to fit taps

ouch, thats tricky. last time i did that, i found it easier to make the 2 spacers, which ended up shaped like to small half-moons (cut a section out of some large washers) then join them together to stop them twisting as you tighten the nuts. Also, if you have a spanner that is the correct...

Drilling a bath to fit taps

good point on the back nut fitting and required space :)

Drilling a bath to fit taps

evil person, that was mean (i've just finished reading that other thread!) as for tap holes in a bath, you need to try and avoid stressing the bath too much, some are more flexible than others. Flat bits are harder for the DIY user to use and get right without damaging the bath (not to...

    sunken bath

i will be doing one of these in a loft style room over my garage because the garage has a high ceiling and the stairs for the room above are at one end and the area left over to the right of the stairs is enough to sink the bath, and no use for anything else. so, for my purposes, i will have...

Architekt shower valves Q's on plumbing

i'm not sure, your best bet is to keep trying to contact them. it sure does sound like it is limiting the upper temperature

Architekt shower valves Q's on plumbing

Q!. Interesting, i'm inclined to think it's less of a pressure issue and more of a flow rate issue, but if 15 works best for you, then you can't argue with practical results :) Q2. yeah, that collar, although crude in it's design and implimentation sounds like it is used to set the upper temp...

    Showers for low water flow

i'd be more inclined to try and identify what is causing the problem first, get your water board out, if there was a drop in flow and pressure, it may not be intentional. 10lpm mains seems very low to me

    radiator question

heat output/heating capabilites differ, as well as the thickness and size if your looking to replace a radiator or add one into a new room, say in an extension, then you can use this site to gauge what you may need http://www.theradiatorcompany.com/heatoutput/ or...

    Shower pump on hot distribution

it is plausible to fit a single ended pump to simply boost the hot supply, but there are a number of things to consider before simply banging a pump in the circuit. for example, 1. what's causing the current problem, or is it just down to low hot feed pressure 2. hows the mains cold...
