Electric towel rail - oil or water?

  i was just thinking the same thing. Some towel rails, such as myson ones, have an electric element option, but if i remember correctly somewhere in the fitting/user paperwork there was a big warning about not isolating the towel rail from the CH supply/return when the electric...

    Honeywell Diverter valve question

i got it, the 4044c is only a 2 position valve as opposed to the 3 position of the 4073, life's never simple is it ! it was the 1585 part of the number that was throwing off my searches

    Honeywell Diverter valve question

ok, i have an Ideal Classic NF80 boiler that i need to replace the diverter valve on, its 22mm and marked up as v4044c1585 now as far as i can see there is little or no difference between this and the regular V4073A mid position valve, other than the fact that the 4073A has the ability to...

    Bypass Valve question

6 bar, or .6bar ? the pump is triggered from a flow sensor on the output line, the pump is badged Rada or something like that, but it is a Stuart Turner 2.3 bar Monsoon Extra, so is not one of your cheap and cheerful B&Q specials ! i don't have a pressure vessel in the output line, so the...

    Bypass Valve question

back into the feed pipe for the pump, close to the pump inlet, the feed pipe comes from the cold storage tank in the loft, so the return must be close to the pump to avoid back feeding the supply, this way i can effectively recycle the unused pumped water back into the feed and minimise the draw...

    Programmable Room Thermostat Installation Question

:D :D apart from the relatively large size of the receiver unit, that looks practically artistic compared to some of my kit :!:

pipe bore, what difference does it make

the conventional way of thinking is to have the build up of pressure as close to the outlet as possible, just like in a shower system, to gain the maximum flow rate available, so you would use the larger bore. That said, unless i am mistaken, over in europe, they have been using 10mm bore...

    Bypass Valve question

it's not ideal, agreed, but as a temporary fix for the low pressure problem (the electric shower wont run off the mains cold, it shuts down) it will have to surfice, until i can get the whole system swapped out for a pumped system. running the mains through a non-return valve and the hot also...

    Bypass Valve question

22mm is fine that is the size of the pipework. i need an auto valve because the pump is supplying an electric shower running in full auto mode ... i know, i know, if you ask the experts they'll all tell you that that wont work, but if you use a decent pump and flow sensor, it will - however...

    Bypass Valve question

for a pumped shower system, details are not important. what i need is preferably an inline bypass valve which will open on a selectable pressure, to replace a manual valve does anyone know of an inline version ? i know sunvic make one of the right angle variety i'm looking for it to...

    Programmable Room Thermostat Installation Question

is this the one you have ? http://www.sunvic.co.uk/documentation/datasheets/RFP%20Datasheet.pdf if so, that one only shows 3 connections, check to see if the 2 "outputs" you have listed in your original post are not infact one output just with 2 options for connection point as for...

    Problem with new Mixer Shower

thats what i'm thinking and the only way you'll get a half reasonable shower on that setup (without a high mounted storage tank) is by using a venturi shower valve like a trevi boost

    Indirect Cylinder

 ... as my regular plumber said to me earlier (right after saying he cant get round to sort it) ... "at least its heating, rather than doing nothing and freezing your ass off" !! :x

    Indirect Cylinder

yup, that sounds familiar - either the valve isnt doing it's job or there is a restriction in the tank coil reducing the flow of hot water into the tank heating coil is the heating system getting warm when it shouldnt ? ie: when the water tank only needs heat

    Replace kitchen tap

those pipes "should" unscrew from the base of tap, this of course relies on the original fitter having left you this option, what type of fittings are on the other end of those pipes ? ... they should be some sort of compression fitting that can be loosened to allow those pipes to rotate, if...

Basin and Bath - same waste?

i would say they were done seperately to avoid back wash issues into the bath and also to avoid having to fit anti-syphon valves

    Problem with new Mixer Shower

can you clarify what type of shower/tap arrangement this is - your description makes it sound like a bath tap, mixer style, with an attachment for a shower hose and then a diverter to send the water into the shower hose .... correct ? my initial thoughts are related to unequal water...
