Looks like another person trying to fix their own boiler that isn't gas safe to me. You should get a competent gas safe engineer in to do any work on the boiler.

What exactly is wrong with it

If he turns out not to be gas safe you will have to get someone out to commission your boiler otherwise the warranty will be void.

Yeh allow a couple of weeks, it's normally quicker but if nothing get straight back onto him.

Powerflushing doesn't have to be done with hot water, they mainly work from the chemicals and a high flow of water. A good powerflush machine can pump 90-100litres a minute, whereas the way you are on about doing it you will be lucky to get 5.

Do you have a sealed or open vented heating system

Looks normal in the picture to me, love the position on the bath taps.

The water will take no longer to get there than what it does at the moment with your cylinder.

Are you sure you should be taking the case off if that boiler???

You need to be qualified to work on an unvented system for a start, and going by the fact you need to ask how to drain down, I'm going to say your not.

If you have a wet vac I wouldn't drain.

Are you gas safe registered?

Normally a bottle of fernox is good for a system with 10 radiators so you will be covered with one of them. You say you are going to change the radiator stems aswell so you will need ptfe tape for these and not a jointing compound.

Yearly or the warranty a void if it is still under warranty.

The reason it doesn't heat the water back up very well could be if its a very old very scaled up cylinder.

Cylinder and heat only boiler every time, much more practical as long as you have good enough water pressure and flow rates. Cost wise I would have said that a boiler and cylinder would be more expensive. The price you pay also depends on your location, less up north, more down south/london
