    Identifying lime render vs cement.

This isn't my area of knowledge but...skillbuilder... Have covered lime mortar and render really well so go and watch. From what you have said I think that's got lime in it. Maybe what you have has a little cement in it along with lime? You thinking about having all replaced?

Outdoor taps in winter, how do you protect yours?

I use the water all year especially in the winter. I think it's daft to turn water off because a outside tap is so useful. So the tap it live. I never turn the water off.

Outdoor taps in winter, how do you protect yours?

Our house has an outside tap on the back wall. Im of the opinion the copper pipe transports heat from inside which helps, but to stop it freezing I made a box out off polystyrene stuck together with silicone. It's been like that for 10+ years and no problem. Bit dark but you get the idea. You...

    Skimming or not?

I'd use bonding with accelerator then skim when set but still wet with multi with accelerator. It's called halftime. Speeds job up. I don't think you are saving much doing yourself. Trade might not be happy to take responsibility for what you do

    Skimming or not?

I'd have that plaster off the wall back to brick then you have options. Is that a cavity wall? I'll guess it is so I'd point in bricks to make solid then you could fit insulated plasterboard over walls Other option is backing plaster and skim or just dot and dab and skim walls. I'd be looking...

    telescopic pole & roller

I like purdy for the locking mechanism. Screws on and locks on roller cage or will quick clip on. System has it faults though but I like it.. Don't pole sand anything as a lung killer. Better ways now as you can go cheap orbital and vacuum

Repair Options for a Rotten Wooden Door

Repair care dry flex 4 (4 hour) is the best stuff to fill but wood will need to be dry and cut out the rot. You use wood cut to fill gaps so you limit the amount of resin filler used. I chuck that door though, and if you are on a budget and good at DIY find a door at a reclamation yard or a...

    Should we be worried? Cracks

I would no worry about that. Rake out and fill. Just have to watch cracks and door opening. If door starts to hit frame or crack starts to open up then that could be a sign of bigger movement and potential problems. Ground moves. Houses move. That looks minor unless you can find anything else...

Which filler for small holes in interior sills and window frames?

Best 2 pack wood filler. Resin and mix with harder sort.. Sand well with 120 grade then a few undercoats and denib between coats to build out and level. If you want to go further then a ready mixed fine filler over after a undercoat and then 320 grade sand. That will give you a perfect...

Cheap orbital sander from DIY store. 120 grade sanding disc Bodge sander on a hepa banged vacuum.. I used a power performance sander on a Henry vac for years. I screwed and silicone waste pipe on sander exhaust. Couldn't kill that sander. Ha. Loads on YouTube on bodging up hose. Longer hose...

What’s the difference between these jointing compunds?

I think they are all very similar although different recipe. When you get used to one with how it feels and how it sands, just stick to it. I used easyfill for years then switched to toupret powder. I used a box of Wickes own last year and found it different to use but I liked it. To answer...

    Weird one

It's a cold spot. Moisture floats around and will settle on a cold spots no matter where it is. Trickle vents help ventilation but I'm of the opinion they do little to stop condensation. Humidity in houses now is off the scale. It travels through walls and ceilings. Often in lofts there is no...

    Washing machine drainage

Stop using liquid soap and start using powder. That will help greatly to start with. Start using calgon and we buy the big boxes off Amazon. Calgon helps stop the black slime. Problem is low temperature washes don't kill bacteria. Needs to be over 60c as that liquid soap and lower temperature...
