    Stair runner

i guess if they are to overlap, the landing would have overlap the stair, otherwise you might end up with a 'lip' to trip over at the top of the stairs.

    Bendy stairs !

my stairs bow a bit when I walk on them. i don't mean they bow in the middle of the tread (like standing on a plank of wood between two bricks) I'm talking about the whole run of stairs bowing downwards. if you think of them as a strip of 13 stairswhich should be straight, they bow in a...

    Power flush advice

another question whilst we're on the topic:- Is it easy to flushout the DHW circuit of a combi boiler, using a powerflush machine hired from HSS or whoever ? i.e. going in through the cold water supply and out of the DHW ? would I do this with the boiler on but the thermostat turned to cold ...

    Sink

Thanks for the reply. The toilet and bath are fine, so it's probably in the bit of pipe betwen the sink and the main soil pipe.

    Sink

I put a new waste into my bathroom sink, but I'm not sure I lined up the overflow of the waste (i.e. just below the plughole) with the overflow of the basin itself. Could this be why the sink is slow to drain ? Or have I got two problems (i.e. the overflow is no good and the pipe is...

C&M Britony Combi - no flame detected?

This boiler doesn't have a pilot light, instead it uses electronic ignition. A bit like gas hobs have, but automatic. So when the boiler fires up the fan runs a little bit, gas is supplied and the ignition should light the gas. If it doesn't light within a few seconds, that's when it will...

C&M Britony Combi - no flame detected?

Can you hear any sparking noises after the fan has been running? Also, I assume you have turned on the gas at the mains and the taps for the boiler (including the gas) are all open ?

    Change of heat sink

Hey I'm no expert, but I thought all radiators were supposed to lose heat i.e. like a heat sink does. Try explaining what you mean if you think we're all mis-understanding.

    Britony Combi 100

Glad its fixed, but... If its 3 years old it might not be modulating...mine is a Britony 80 - very similar - and the old PCB did not appear to modulate - just on and off all the time. Probably the reason that relays failed and I ended up replacing the PCB. The new PCB is quite different...

    Lever snapped off mixer tap

I have a 1/4 turn ceramic disc mixer tap in my kitchen: and the inside of the cold tap lever (where the spindle bit attaches) has cracked. So it slips instead of gripping. Any ideas on how to fix ? Will I have to replace the whole lot ?

Its all gone dim (headlights on Metro)

I had another look with the car stationary and me pressing the switches rather than asking my wife why she didn't have the lights on !!! The 'sidelights' come on, but not the main beam ones. Also, I can't switch on the full beam lights (i.e. blue light on the dash board) , but I can 'flash...

Its all gone dim (headlights on Metro)

My wife's metro (1993) - generally OK, but the headlights have gone quite dim. Full beam seems quite bright, and the indicators seem ok, so I don't think it is the battery for example.

    Noisey Combi Boiler

Or hire a machine to do it. Or remove the part and descale it outside of the boiler.

Potterton Suprima PCB dead - has anyone claimed from them?

I think the weak link is often the use of relays to switch mains power. Those little pcb-mount ones have a lifetime of 100,000 contacts, which isn't a lot, if you think of the hot tap on a combi being on 20 times a day, with 5 heat/cool cycles as the temperature is modulated. Makes about 1000...

    Hot water problem

Does the hot water temperature vary when you turn the control on the front of the boiler (the one with the tap symbol next to it)? Mine is set at about '11 o'clock' with it being winter. In the summer its a bit lower, because the incoming water is warmer.

fan on but does not activate air pressure switch

I wouldn't pay too much attention to the flashing lights, they can be helpful but can be down-right misleading. For example when you have the heating on the fan will be running (and the APS activated as a result). Does the fan run when you select hot water ? I found my system said the fan...

    puma 100e re-charge

Recharging ? Perhaps he meant filling up with water again ? If you can tell us what kind of boiler etc (i.e. look for labels on it etc) you might get enough help here to get the heating back on. Bit chilly today to be without it.

Different Levels of heat from Radiators

Unrelate, but just a nasty thought: did the builders lag your pipes? We bought our house 'renovated' and they hadn't bothered. Imagine a) the waste of energy and b) the burst pipe opportunities in weather like this. The ground floor is peppered with airbricks so the CH pipes were near as...
