Alpha 240E - Noisey after Rad swap...

I've given it another few days, bled the rads lots. No air to speak of present, but the noise remains. I've noticed it reacts differently when on heating and hot water too. On hot water the boiler fires up from cold, starts making the noise fairly quickly, perhaps within 10 or 15 seconds...

Alpha 240E - Noisey after Rad swap...

Thanks. I've gone and re-bled it again tonight, two rads seemed to have a lot of air in them. Will see how it goes now. Not sure why you deem it unneccesary to drain and refill? The old rad was smaller and pipes were in a slightly different place to the new one, and i wanted the pipes out the...

Alpha 240E - Noisey after Rad swap...

Been doing some decorating/renovating in preperation for a new arrival, and as part of the job i replaced a radiator. The system was drained down, the old rad removed, and the pipes capped off while plastering and other work was done. System was refilled and ran fine during this time, though i...

    Circulating pump problem

Yeh, i'm coming round to that. The header is now clean, so the work theres already done. Its lasted this long, so clean it out as best we can and ensure its properly dosed with inhibitor and hopefully that will keep it in decent fettle for a while. Probably better spending the money on a...

    Circulating pump problem

Isnt the whole idea of the sealed system that your reducing the available oxygen and thus making it less likely to get sludged up? Given it needs drained down anyway to get the X400 out it doesnt seem like a huge job to remove the F&E connections and attach the vessel and associated parts. Any...

    Circulating pump problem

The existing install with the inverted loop appears to be as per the boiler manufacturer instructions, so we just left it like that. I was thinking about converting it to a sealed system. You can buy the expansion vessel and PRV kit for about 40quid, and would do away with the F&E tank and i...

    Circulating pump problem

Magnet made sense and sure enough the filling loop and nearby pipework was very magnetic. Cut out a couple feet of pipe, cleaned out the pipe run from the F&E tank and rebuilt the pipework with new pipe and got it all working. Quick pic from todays efforts...

    Circulating pump problem

I'm going over tomorrow to have a look. He said the pipes out the boiler were cold, but the boiler itself appeared to get hot.

    Circulating pump problem

There is water in the tank, but he also said theres a lot of silt in the bottom of it... i wonder if the silt has been drawn in when hes bled the system and its caused a blockage somewhere? Any thoughts on what to try next? I guess some sort of flushing process?

    Circulating pump problem

He says theres water coming out the pump when he opens the bleed screw, but only when the pump is NOT running. When its running, nothing comes out. Maybe thats by design. He also says hes bled all the radiators. Not sure if hes bled the hot water coil. Theres a pair of zone valves but they...

    Circulating pump problem

My brother is having some trouble with his heating. Its an open vented system with an Ideal Classic FF250. He came home the other night to various gurgling noises coming from the pipework, and a number of radiators seemed to be partially cold. He bled the radiators and found lots of air in...

    "Sludge Cock" problems...

Thanks for the info. Yeh, its just nice as the existing drain pipe goes out the wall after that valve, saving messing about with bits of hose onto a drain cock etc. I guess replacing it with a normal quarter turn valve would do the job though. Also not sure if theres enough slack in the...

    "Sludge Cock" problems...

I had to extend a pipe on a radiator at the weekend to clear an extractor duct, which required draining the heating system. We've had a new kitchen fitted and the drain valve was behind one of the new units, but i had the guy cut an access hole so no issues there... set to with some pliers...

New door measurements, fixing previous bodge job.

I want to replace the side door in our house. The existing door is a UPVC unit thats been really badly installed, is very old and pretty knackered. I want to replace it with a composite door, so today i pulled the fascias off to try and measure up the size for the new door. The installation of...

Two extractor fans in one room?

The problem is a smaller pipe has more resistance to flow. If your going to change it, use this stuff: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Extractor-Bathroom-Domestic-Ventilation-Hydroponics/dp/B00LZNZSTY/ref=sr_1_7?s=diy&ie=UTF8&qid=1430927992&sr=1-7&keywords=100mm Its a very long run, and you...
