    UFH insulation

"self leveling screeds can be down to 50mm" Thats as long as you want the heat to break it up and relay your floor within a year or two. 65-70mm minimum ask any real builder, at least 45-50mm over the pipe is the minimum standard. Maybe the French do it a bit 'differently' to us.

    UFH insulation

http://www.screwfix.com/prods/50913/Building/Roofing-Insulation/Airtec-Double-Insulation-1-5m-x-25m Have a look at this product from Srewfix, it would give you an equivalent of 110mm polystyrene for ony 5mm. Not sure if will help but worth looking at.

    Back boiler air vent problem

I hope you ment 10cm not 10mm, please take the advice given and use a gas safe registered engineer to carry out any work. Any restriction to air vents when dealing with an open flued apppliance like you have, can honestly be fatal.

New Heating System does not work!!!

Poor system design is leading to air being pulled down the vent, interupting system flow, even if he is adapting sections of the old system, he is still duty bound to leave you with a fully working system.

Inability to form correct end feed plumbing joint.

Apply the heat to where you want the solder to run to, ie if it is an elbow then to the back of the bend, if it is a coupling then to the centre, the solder is drawn to the hottest part of the joint. If you are heating the part where the pipe and fitting touch, you are not pulling enough...

    Hot water not working

Anyone notice the lead pipework looks like it draws hot water from the cylinder. The two sections of 15mm look like the are a flow and return through one of those 'add it yourself' drop in heat exchangers. Has anyone here fitted one of those to a direct cylinder? what was the outcome? We...

Fitting new pan connector to an old toilet

The pipework coming out of the wall looks like lead, you could cut that back by an inch or so if it would ease the positioning of the pan/cistern. I like Multiquick pan connectors, the plastic they are made of is not as ridgid as some others which makes them easier to fit in tight spaces. Good...

    powermax135 problems

Very true Mr Bongo, We look after an estate where every property has a Powermax, the burner head gasket MUST be replaced if the burner head is removed, no matter the condition of the old one. As for the banging noise, We have found that one or two suffer from banging if there is any blockage...

Draining a combi boiler without a drain valve

If you have a 3/4 inch nut connecting your radiator valve, a washing machine valve will come in handy, it is 3/4 bsp one side and connects to 15mm copper tube the other which fits nicely up a garden hose.

Heatline S24/s30 pressure off the scale (but it still works!

Could be that your filling loop is either open or at least partially open causing the over-pressurisation. The pressure relief valve may still be working, have a look on the outside wall and see if there is any sign of water escaping the building somewhere near your boiler. The pressure...

Power shower or pump and mixer?

Minimum of 2.5 bar will do nicely, but if you can get more it wouldn't hurt.

    hot water circulating pump

Yes. I put it as the last tee in before your cold water inlet. If you have a copy of the Manufactures instructions on hand it shows you how. Best of luck with that. ( I do hope you have your unventilated certificate)

    New Baxi Back Boiler

Did a course with Baxi down at Dartford recently, they took us round their workshop where new products were being tried out, and they let us have a poke around this appliance, looked a good idea in principle, the fan was not particularly noisy, the fire front was electric with a hologram type...

glow worm swift flow 80 sit combi boiler

I'm going to take a wild stab in the dark, and go with scaled heat exchanger slowing down the water causing over heating. The screaming noise may be either the pump or the fan, the only moving components within the appliance. More likely to be the pump as the fan would be running at full speed...

gas industry unsafe situations procedure questions

How many of the GSR engineers on here go out of their way to issue a RIDDOR? I have always found it a bit 'Against the grain' TBH. I understand fully that we should, but I'd rather get paid to put it right.
