    EV are they worth it?

Oh, my sincere apologies for my stupid question. I shall remove myself and live in a cave in the mountains. Of course, if they did, wouldn't that be rather embarrassing?

    EV are they worth it?

Encouraging, but who knows what this Labour government might do? Can they actually ban ICE engines?

    EV are they worth it?

No problem. We have just bought a new Skoda Fabia. An excellent car which, I hope, will keep us happy for many more years. If the new 'government' (for want of a better word!) does begin to punish motorists by bringing forward 'the deadline' to 2030, we'll either get a new one of the same or...

    EV are they worth it?

Yes, I had heard that the initial interest in EVs has reduced lately. I think I might have also mentioned earlier that uptake of them might also drop when the government decides to impose 'road tax' (yes I know they don't call it that now) on EVs and possibly also to reduce any other benefits...

Light Sphere, is that the new name to replace light bulb?

Very interesting. I wasn't aware of much of this, especially that even the USA agreed and adopted this definition. I also see it as beneficial to us all, as until I heard this I assumed that measurements of length on both sides of the Atlantic were noticeably different! Measurements and...

    EV are they worth it?

Yes, of course I meant 2040. I shouldn't post when I'm in a rush. However, I do hope still to be here in 2028/9 so that I can say, "I told you so!"

    EV are they worth it?

I don't know how long this thread is going to continue, but at my age I probably won't be here in 2024. However, I'm happy that I shall be able to keep (and hopefully drive) an ICE car for the rest of my life. If anyone does happen to keep the thread going, and looks in here in 2024, I hope they...

    EV are they worth it?

Well, you are at perfect liberty to pour scorn if you wish. May I ask you a simple question? In which year do you expect the government (whoever they are) to ban the sale of ICE cars? 2035? 2030? Sooner?

    EV are they worth it?

Absolutely. Actually, I don't see any point in trying to persuade people who have decided beyond any question that they are correct. Let them all buy electric milk floats, stop using fossil fuels including gas for domestic heating, watch whilst windmills fail to produce all the electricity they...

    EV are they worth it?

Are we? And were we responsible for the climate change at the last Ice Age? No. Climate change is natural and has been going on well before humans even existed.

    Saving my pond

I wouldn't expect tadpoles now, although of course I may be wrong. Our frogs produced piles of frogspawn a several weeks ago, which miraculously turned into thousands of minuscule tadpoles which, in turn, have now disappeared. I'm sure that many of them (those which survived the goldfish) will...

    ITV debate

The wife and I have been listening to this crap for half an hour now. All I have heard is each of the two criticising the other. Offering clear answers to each of the questions has been completely avoided and replaced by trying to put down their opponents. My opinion, before this began, is...

    ITV debate

Just turned this on now (at the beginning on ITVX). I'm sure it will be entertaining but, of course, I shall not believe a single word of either of them.

    USB Flash Stick As Backup

These are mechanical hard discs, but I have had them for a few years and they both still work perfectly. If you think about it, I only use each one about once a month and only for as long as it takes to copy the new files I have temporarily saved to Google Drive.

    USB Flash Stick As Backup

I have two portable hard discs for backups. Each is capable of holding far more than I have saved on my laptop (I forget the exact amount without getting them out), and I believe that similar items can be bought for around £50 or perhaps less.

Do you turn off the circuit when changing a lightbulb?

Just my four penn'orth, you understand, but all I find necessary is to turn off the switch on the wall or on the lamp. Just in case, tha' knows.

    Leaking Conservatory Gutter

Flexacryl. Our conservatory gutter comprises a few sections of lead. The only problem which occurs perhaps every two or three years is that the lead expands and contracts at different times of the year and can result in a small leak at one of the joints. Consequently, I have painted Flexacryl...

    EV are they worth it?

Talking of EV charging, the 'village' (suburb) at the bottom of our road has a very small car park which now has about 12 spaces compared to 16 previously because the trendy council (in its wisdom) has installed two EV charging points. Actually, I have never seen any EV actually using them (and...

Pet safe cat flap battery life?

We have two cats, who can come and go as they wish. Our cat flap uses four C-cells which, of course, are a good bit bigger than AA. The last ones we used lasted for at least six months.
