Insulating floor joists - quick question

That’s annoying. You would hope you’d see some benefit. To be honest I’m going to be using sonic gold underlay for the laminate which I will tape at the seams so that’ll stop the draughts meaning the membrane is probably excessive in that situation.

Insulating floor joists - quick question

What did you use for the membrane? I've got some tyvek house wrap so thinking thats probably a good solution. Wouldn't the concrete just act as a massive heat sink and take ages to get warm?

Insulating floor joists - quick question

Yeah, was tempted by that but get the impression its a bit unwieldly? I guess once its on you know it isn't going anywhere. What fixing did you use?

Insulating floor joists - quick question

For context, its more the cost thats an issue for me. I'm refurbishing the house to sell on and replacing the laminate as its knackered. So figured I'd help the next owners out with insulating the floor because its freezing now. 150mm should have the same performance as 70mm PIR shouldn't it...

Insulating floor joists - quick question

Yeah but PIR is such a pain. Happy to go to 150mm insulation as thats what regs say. Plus its far more expensive and time consuming doing PIR imo. Happy to be proven wrong..

Insulating floor joists - quick question

Hi, Had a look round but couldn't find an answer specific to my query. Going with rockwool insulation for a suspended timber floor. I've got a load of house wrap that I could use to hold the insulation between the joists. However, is this the best route or would I be better off going with...

    Carpet cutting efficiency

Thank you. Appreciate the input. I thought I’d probably be at the very low end with that budget. Thanks for all your effort on this one.

Is this really a tonne bag?

Depends how you look at it. I consider myself unlucky they’re 250kg short!

    Carpet cutting efficiency

Thank you. Axfelt looks a good option. Do the denser ones still feel soft under the foot? £46m2 is a fair bit out of my budget. Was hoping for £30m2 including the underlay. Appreciate that won’t get me really good carpet but we are looking to sell our house soon and the carpets are completely...

    Carpet cutting efficiency

For clarity my calculations were wrong. Wasn’t trying to defend my numbers in the last post. Was just trying to work out where I’d gone wrong. That’s why I said I’d done the thing you suggested in my head but didn’t write it down on paper when I calculated it. Running on about 4 hours sleep a...

Is this really a tonne bag?

Thanks. They sent me a pic of their yard and all the bags were filled like that. I don’t think it will have been down to damp as the test I did was with damp gravel as it’s been rained on the past 2 days.

    Carpet cutting efficiency

Woah a bit defensive there. I wasn’t questioning you saying you were wrong. I was just curious what the specifics of the difference were so I’d know for next time. Just trying to learn. Didn’t mean to offend. I know you said they wouldn’t colour match my question was how different do they tend...

    Carpet cutting efficiency

Ah apologies. Does there tend to be a lot of variation between a 4m and 5m width carpet? Are you saying you’d do them all in one length to ensure that doesn’t happen? I added 10cm on each measurement for the cuts but assume you mean something different? My method was to take the shortest...

Is this really a tonne bag?

Hahaha, good work! Thanks, that does make me feel better about throwing the kitchen sink at them. Update: they’ve offered a refund or to send an additional amount. So I’m happy with that. Will be finishing off the garden this week so depends if I need the extra 250kg. I think I will.

    Carpet cutting efficiency

Interesting. I worked it out to be about 65 including the stairs. I wonder where we are different in the calcs. I added 10 cm onto each length from my laser measurer for cuts.

    Carpet cutting efficiency

Thanks. Sorry I put the measurement for the landing in an earlier post. Its 2.2m x 3m and the mini landing for the second floor is 1.2m x 0.86cm. It finishes roughly straight. It doesn't come out much apart from the very bottom step for the bull nose. Which measures about 1m wide factoring in...

    Carpet cutting efficiency

Fair, I didn't think wastage was as much of an issue in underlay. Yeah, correct on the floor plan. The landing size factors that in yeah. The landing on the top floor is about 1.2m long including drop to the first step.

Is this really a tonne bag?

Thank you. That was the heaviest measurement too, I tried three times and it varied slightly lower so 1,600kg I agree is spot on. So based on a 314cm circumference and 59cm height is the overall volume of the gravel I have 463 litres and thus approx 750kg?
