    Coach Bolts or Coach Screws

I'm in the process of planning a deck, and I will need to attach two 2x6 joists either side of a 4x4 post. Now, I cannot find a coach bolt or a drill bit that will go right the way through the 8 inches of wood. Will coach screws on either side be just as good? Thanks in advance.

    Deck over existing raised area

I need to attach the posts to the face of the wall to bring the deck to where I need it, and allow the boards to be attached to the face. I have looked at rawl bolts but they seem to work with thin materials. Are there any fixings that will go through the 4 inch post and fix strongly into...

    Deck over existing raised area

Would it work if I was to attach 4 inch posts to the front of the wall and let the wall take the weight of the deck? I could then attach the joists to the posts on the wall (wall takes weight) and attach to posts at the back of the deck? Thanks

    Deck over existing raised area

At the back and the existing wall end? I was thinking that the wall would be a suitable support for the front of the frame, or will that not work?

    Deck over existing raised area

[/url] It's in the back garden, but the raised area is the natural ground level (level with front garden and roads etc. It then steps down into the back garden. I won't need planning permission based on what you've said and what I've just looked up. Just need the best way to create the...

    Deck over existing raised area

In which case it should be fine, any ideas about the best way to create the frame?

    Deck over existing raised area

Really? Even though the higher level is level with the front garden? It's actually a step down between 2 different natural ground levels.

    Deck over existing raised area

We have a raised walled area in our garden which I would like to deck over. I'm OK with the decking part, but I'd be grateful if someone could say the best way to get a solid frame built on what is already there. I would like the existing brick to be wood covered so I need a slight...

Noise in heating and hot water?

Well I called out our local Heating Engineer to have a look and he said to stop the noise we will need an Air Separator fitted. He said that he's seen a lot of the same problem around our housing estate due to the way it was designed when installed. Does that sound about right? Said it's...

Noise in heating and hot water?

Sorry, I thought a combi one was one that heated hot water and was for the heating (looked now and see I was wrong with the terminology). I wasn't going to try and repair it myself, I just wanted to know if the two problems above are connected and whether I'd be paying for one repair or two...

Noise in heating and hot water?

How would I check that? Where is the pressure gauge? Here's a photo of the boiler if that helps... http://www.terryh.co.uk/files/boiler.jpg

Noise in heating and hot water?

We have a potterton combi boiler and for a while now there is a water trickling noise when the heating comes on and also when the hot water comes on. Are these likely to be related? I only ask because the noise when the hot water comes on has only just started to happen (or at least I've only...

    alert me home monitoring system

It's like banging your head against a brick wall trying to get a proper answer here. Why 'may' it work? What does it do wrong?

    alert me home monitoring system

Er, detects an intruder (and smoke alarms) and lets me know about it??

    alert me home monitoring system

No it doesn't, that's the same reply as last time. Yes it's cheap and I don't disagree that you get what you pay for, I would never say it's the best alarm there is. But why is it so bad? What does it do wrong?

    alert me home monitoring system

I have one and posted on here a couple of weeks ago for opinions. No one seems to like it on here but no one wants to give a proper reason why. For me, it seems to do its job, however I still would like to know it's vulnerabilities, maybe this time round will give better answers.

    Planed timber online

Don't have a roof rack so buying online would be the ideal solution, but only if recommended.

    Planed timber online

I am after some planed timber in fairly long lengths, unfortunately my car isn't very big. Does anyone have any recommendations of where I can buy this online? I have seen B&Q do it, but their delivery is quite slow. Thanks in advance.

    AlertMe System?

I don't think any of them have to be honest.

    AlertMe System?

Who? Me? I'm not pushing it, I want to know how it varies from professional kits, and not just because it's a cheap plug in box. I genuinely want to know the bad points and it's vulnerabilities, so I can weigh up whether it's worth upgrading. It runs on 2.4 G, and? Can that be blocked...
