yes u got it! but which ever way i do it it wont engage clutch! its off to mr clutch now!

i tried to replace the cluch release arm on my escort van 1800 non turbo deisel. in doing so following the haynes, the release shaft (the spindle in to the gear box) has gone loose and can be minipulated up and down maybe 1.5 cm now. i think i have well and truly messed it up! the van wont go in...
