    Cold roof insulation and ventilation

It’s not really a matter of fussing, just trying to avoid the ridiculous amount of condensation I’m getting. My research suggests that insulation stuck to the bottom of the deck could make it worse.

    Cold roof insulation and ventilation

I’ve recently built a lean to shed abutted to my garage with a GRP roof. I underestimated the ventilation requirements and have ended up with mould on the underside of the roof deck despite soffit vents and air bricks. There is no insulation in the roof, so I am considering the following options...

Condensation on ceiling spray foam insulation?

Thank you, I’m going to have to have a good think about the best way to achieve this. It would be easier if my joists ran the other way. the other option I am considering is spray foam insulation if anyone has tried this?

Condensation on ceiling spray foam insulation?

No, I thought there would be sufficient ventilation with the 6 air bricks and soffit vents. The underside of the deck is open with no overboard if or insulation at present. The easiest option would be to vent through into the abutted garage but not sure if this would make it worse...

Condensation on ceiling spray foam insulation?

Hi all I’ve built a lean to shed on the side of my garage, consisting of concrete slab with DPM and half brick dwarf wall with timber frame, plastic clad walls atop with a grp roof. After completing the ceiling became damp and mouldy so I added soffit vents and air bricks. The ceiling is...

    GRP pin holes

Hi all Had a go at GRP-ing my shed roof and got caught out by weather on about 1 square metre. This section has hardened but has pin holes in the top coat. What is the correct way to rectify this? Sand the affected area, add resin then re-top coat? Or is more matting required once sanded...

    Insulation question

Good morning all. I have just completed a lean to extension to my garage consisting of 6 courses of brick with a timber framed, plastic clad structure with grp flat roof. My question is should I insulate the walls? I was going to insulate the ceiling too, however after reading about cold roofs...

    Dwarf wall concrete slab edge

Hi all. I’m building a lean to on the side of my garage and having laid a concrete slab, plans are evolving. My slab is 4inch thick with 6mm mesh on a DPM above 4inch on MOT, all surrounded by 2inch thick edging. The lean to is only for bike and garden tool storage. Question 1… I’m going to...

    Fencing feather edge fence

Thanks for the reply. I assume the corner post is shared. It also has the rails tennoned into it. I think I’m going to avoid touch it! My only concern is, it looks quite rotten and I worry removing my fence will destroy the integrity of my neighbours adjoining fence. My plan would mean my new...

    Fencing feather edge fence

Hi all Planning on replacing my garden fence with 6ft feather edge. My question is, when I get to the corner, how should I proceed as the corner post currently serves my neighbours fence too. In other words the fence would look like a T shape from above. Do I replace the corner post and risk...

    Solid oak floor over tiles

Here’s an update for anyone else talking this job, I spoke to Bostik who recommended using a polymer based adhesive such as Bostik Laybond which is applied directly to the tiles using a b3 adhesive spreader. I followed the instructions on their data sheet and the floors gone down a treat.

    Solid oak floor over tiles

Cheers. Just another Couple of thoughts and I’ll try not to bother you any further.... what about sticking some 3mm ply over the tiles and installing the solid oak floor as per usual - (adhesive for ply onto tiles to be ascertained). Alternatively, could the solid oak float on the tiles if I...

    Solid oak floor over tiles

Thanks, I think you may be a victim of predictive text there. Just to clarify - tiles up, liquid DPM down, levelling compound down then glue solid oak floor down. Is this what you’re suggesting? Thanks again.

    Solid oak floor over tiles

Also, what are the implications if I take up the tiles? Would I need to put a DPM down?

    Solid oak floor over tiles

Thanks Daz. Appreciate the advice. Why is a damp proof needed? Are the tiles likely damp proofing the concrete floor? Just out of interest, why the difference between solid and engineered? Sorry for all the quest, I just like to understand what I’m doing.

    Solid oak floor over tiles

Thank you. They’ve actually been given 15m of solid and 15m of solid engineered so if there’s a difference they could use either?

    Solid oak floor over tiles

Hi there My parents have been given 15sq m of solid oak floor. On removing the carpet we have found the floor is covered in tiles - possibly called Marley tiles??? Thin, brittle looking tiles. The plan was to stick the floor down, I’m guessing this may not be an option? Can anyone point me in...
