Best way to remove this stain ? Indian Sandstone

Baby shampoo is great. I use sodium hypochlorite as suggested in the link but I buy it in 5 ltr containers. Its not expensive at maybe £25 for 5 ltrs and mixed from 3:1 up to 8:1 its a very effective general paving cleaner so worthwhile getting for future maintanance if you have room to store...

    Time to do the fence

I like the cuprinol stuff below, you can thin it down if you want to spray it but for being solvent based product it is more expensive than the water based alternatives. Very good coverage with one coat. https://www.duluxtradepaintexpert.co.uk/products/cuprinol/cladding-and-fence-opaque-finish

Best way to remove this stain ? Indian Sandstone

It is the berries birds eat and berry stains can be very hard to shift. Dampedn the surface and then pour on a mix of 3:1 water:bleach with a dash of shampoo. Let it sit for 10 mins and then lightly scrub it and then after another 10 mins wash it off. keep it moistened the whole time, i.e mist...

    Managing your own building work

The building control bit is not a big deal really, you'll be surprised at how little interest many of them take. Start off on the right foot doing things properly and they will give you a long leash. Start off trying to bodge something or arguing with them and it can be more troublesome. I...

    Paving Slabs

Avoid the limestone for the reasons you highlighted. If you buy cheap sandstone from ebay etc it will not have had the same quality control etc as a large supplier like mashalls. The risk are poor dimensioning, ie flags are varying sizes or badly calibrated thickness etc The other issue is...

    Pond excavation

In that case you'll obviously be tapering the pond edges back sigificantly so having it fall back in is not relevant. With your method you will have to dig it all out at once anyway. Make sure your bottom drain is in a deep dished area as there may be some settlement of the surround earth and...

    Pond excavation

You dont want to build on any kind of backfill. You should dig out the pond and then carefully dig out a narrow channel in the base for your pipe. Install your pipe and bottom drain and then pour your slab. (i'm assuming your going for a concrete slab and then building walls off that) You can...

    Plate Compactor / Roller

Semi dry lean mix, 1:3:6 It important to compact it but level it carefully first as once compacted its is a pain to remove high spots etc. Your neighbours drive rutting after 2 weeks is either caused by inadequate compaction of sub base or more likely too deep or wrong sand. Many novice...

Slab pour, does this sound ok?

The mini heatwave is not your problem. If your 'builder' wasnt smart enough to have retarder in it or well enough prepared with enough men to pour a slab in hot weather he should have waited. ****ing it up with extra water is going to leave a very weak surface and the finish on that slab is...

Honda GCV 160 surging when hot

John aka 'burnerman' will no doubt be along soon and he is the resident machinery expert. If you replaced the carb, fuel, and are sure there are no leaks in your air lines and vents I cant help anymore. Good luck

    DIY hit and miss fence

Good job, well done. Great when people post feedback or photos of a finished job.

Honda GCV 160 surging when hot

Fuel tank vent blocked? Does it improve when you loosen the fuel cap while its running? This usually causes it to die when hot though rather than hunt/surge. It really sounds like a fuel/carb issue.

How do people keep paths totally weed free?

I don't mean the traffic is stoping weeds, more that the traffic even infrequent over many years has compacted the soil so much it doesn't provide much of a seed bed.

How do people keep paths totally weed free?

Compacted trafficked earth just doesn't let seed grow.

    Concrete logcabin base to large

Neighbour's hedge has broken my fence

If you have 150ft of boundary your never going to keep animals out. The high hedges act is your friend here. 5m is totally unreasonable but you may find that if he was forced to cut it then you will have to take on the maintenance of your side.

    Extension wider at one end

He may have made the new corners square and the existing brickwork is out of square or he may just have cocked it up a bit. Its not that big a deal as you could lose 15mm each end with the wall plate. If your having a cut roof it'll be no problem. Premade trusses etc may be a bit more fiddly.

    Concrete logcabin base to large

It should have been cut when the cabin base was being layed out. You may be best off grinding it down at this point to put a bevel on it, cutting will be very difficult and stitch drilling will ruin the edges of the slab and possible send cracks into it. It will be slow dusty work with a...

    Plate Compactor / Roller

Similar to woody I lay the first 4/5 feet of a drive with semi dry compacted lean mix concrete instead of normal sub base. It stops the wheel rutting. I lay the first couple of courses on a strong semi dry compacted screed 4:1 grit sand - cement. Then i carry on with normal grit sand only from...
