Replacement radiator is colder at bottom than it is at top.

The 2nd test that I did today have changed things slightly. Before the boiler only used to fire for 1 1/2 minutes. It fired for alot longer today. The only thing that we have done what I think would have made a difference in the last couple of weeks since it was cycling is the bucket test and...

DP, yes, the pink pipe at the back of the pump going up the way which is the return, large pipe in red to the left of the pump is the flow.

Hi Tony The flow temperature is taken with boiler running. The return temperature was taken just after the boiler switches off.

I am running boiler for an hour with the tap off. Flow pipe measuring 74.7 maximum whilst boiler running, return 41.5 just after boiler switches off. Heat exchanger measuring 42.4 just after the boiler stops firing. should the heat exchanger get this hot? Hopefully chrisR is on to...

thanks chris That explains why the boiler is staying on longer. Could there still be a prob with the diverter v/v? Don't want to get homeserve out to look at it if there is no problem, no doubt they would charge me? DP- looking back and one of your other posts, better clarifiy that...

Hi DP I will be running the boiler tommorrow with the hot tap closed. Therefore will feel the pipes at this time. Are there only two pipes above and below the pump? Also, I don't think the boiler will run continually for 5 minutes with the tap closed. Should I therefore check the pipes...

Replacement radiator is colder at bottom than it is at top.

Thank you to everybody for the various thoughts. I will try to clarify some matters. 1. No internal by pass in boiler as per manual. No external bypass. All rads have TRV's fitted. 2. Pump replace on 11/8/10 by Alpha. 3. DHW comes on and off as it should, including when CH is...

Hi I will do the test tonight and tomorrow night. It will be next week before homeserve come out anyway. The heating is set at 7. This was the magic no for getting 70deg on the boiler. fluff

Hi everyone Never came on last night as I was depressed after talking to Alpha last night. My boss phoned Alpha technical this morning. After he spoke to them, they have agreed that the diverter v/v assy should be stripped down, checked and replaced if necessary. I therfore need to...

Replacement radiator is colder at bottom than it is at top.

Hi all Just had the wind taken out of me. Spoke to Alpha technical (this guy seemed very knowledgeable). He said there is nothing wrong with the diverter valve. He said that we were tricking the boiler into thinking that the DHW was on when we left the tap open a trickle. He said...

Agile, I saw your post on the settings. Am i right that I would need an engineer to do this? If so, what do I need to ask them to do? When I explain what has been happening, they will tell me that I don't need to change the settings and I will get the old lines of it needing a powerflush...

Hi Transam thanks for the advice. Agree with repiping the rad and this will definatley be getting done but I don't think this will solve the problem of the boiler cycling but leaving the hot water tap only slightly does. fluff

Replacement radiator is colder at bottom than it is at top.

Hi all Could this be the answer :?: My boss wanted me to do a test on the diverter valve. He thought that was the problem. He may be right. I opened the hot water tap to a trickle without starting the boiler up. Then switched the boiler on for CH and the results were as follows:-...

Replacement radiator is colder at bottom than it is at top.

Hi again Had another company around tonight. The guy that came around is a gas-safe engineer. He was very much trying to sell us lots of different types of work which may need done and I told him what has happened to date. He asked if all radiators except for problem rad get hot. We...

Replacement radiator is colder at bottom than it is at top.

Hi all I have decided that I am a bit thick. I still don't get how the boiler is oversized and what modulating down means. The water heats up really quick, no question about this, but I don't understand why the water gets so hot that it cuts out the stat when:- 1. None of the rads...

Hi Agile So do you think this could this be our problem all along? Would you say it is not worthwhile spending money on powerflushes, fitting new pipework, etc if the boiler is too powerful. If it is too overpowered, would I just be better getting a new boiler fitted? If I left the...

Replacement radiator is colder at bottom than it is at top.

Hi D_Hailsham Thanks for your thoughts again. What I would ask of everyone else is if your thoughts on the boiler not being able to modulate down low enough would give these symptoms if I did only need 10 kw heat in my house and with 13kw of radiators. If anyone can concure, hopefully...

Replacement radiator is colder at bottom than it is at top.

Hi agile The rad is still heating up (or rather not) the same as before. I would say the problem is that the boiler cuts out too quickly and keeps cycling for some reason. The boiler only fired for about 1 1/2 mins before cutting out for 3 minutes. This keeps continuing. Obviously, all...

Hi scoobydo123 Yes, both valves fully opened. I cut off the top of a 1 1/2 litre coke bottle and worked perfectly. Tipped the contents into a bucket as we went. fluff
