    Does the house have any mystery electrical issues, like one light only working if another is switched on too? Makes you wonder what value an inspection report has, if someone then goes and removes all the lights potentially messing up the wiring!

    Quite simply, you haven't provided enough clear detail for anyone to comment on that. Can you take a photo of the wall/sockets/connections and draw the cable runs on it?

    Put it this way, you haven't mentioned what is protecting this circuit at the consumer unit, that would be useful info. Once you know that, if you switch that MCB off at the CU, what else, other than the cooker stops working? Is there anything in line with where the "extra" cable runs to ?
