    Painting the House

Well said. I'd agree with what davellew69! Buying cheap paint is a waste of time in the long run as you'll have to use more to get the same coverage as trade paint.

How to fix curtain pole to UPVC Bay Window?

Well the wooden batten would be the easy way to go but not the best visually looking. What widths are the size and the front of your bay window??? Only asking because if the width of the window is over a certain distance it will have reinforcing in it which you could screw into otherwise you...

    Newbie after some bathroom help!

Well before you fit your shower and new cistern you'll need to tile behind them and then grout. As for tiles on the floor it would be better to do that before fixing on a new bath panel and after you have tiled the rest of the walls.

Did you thin down all the coats you put on the coving or just the first one. And are you using Dulux Trade or the normal retail one?

    Window 98se start up problems

Well like any update to a driver it is always best to make a back up before going ahead. Like any hardware manufacture they will always put a disclaimer up. All i can say is backup and try it. If you were using XP then system restore would provide (to a certain level) an option to backup your...

I keep the second one. Has better specs, though PC Chips motherboards aren't the best by far!

    Window 98se start up problems

I assume that you are using the Vistascan software that comes with your Umax scanner. There is a bug in that software. You can go to umax.com and read about the Tech Notes 7076 and download the patch. The vmm32.vxd error is caused by the old umaxis11.exe in your root directory. The patch...

    Insulation under bath

Now and again we sub contract for a building renovation company and I've noticed on many of their jobs they have put roof insulation (very much looks like it) under the bath before they panel it up. Question is....is there any benefit to doing that? I guess it keeps the noise down a bit while...

Foolproof way to paint over wallpaper

Basically if the walls are clean and the paper is well stuck to the walls then just repaint them with quality paint (dulux trade). Otherwise if you wish to have them stripped and painted it will cost you a lot more than just a few tins of paint. I guess by the wallcoverings you have at the...

    Ceiling Tape

Just fill over it with a wide blade scraper and lightly sand over it with some 120 sandpaper or a fine sanding block.

Can I use emulsion on metal?

If you were to use metal primer first then you could use emulsion over the top of it but if knocked it may scrape off. I'd use satinwood personally as i dont think the colour would be that far off, you would only notice the difference in the finish in that satinwood has a slight sheen. Or if...

    Vaillant combi

Well since I did do a very slight adjustment all has been fine. To be honest it is even mentioned about doing this in the Vaillant manual (under servicing) so if they say that then they must allow for wear and tear. I know one day the boiler will die due to its age but till it blows up or...

    Vaillant combi

Well after waiting for BG i gave up and decided to look at the boiler myself. Looked at Wiggystardust's post and did what he did and guess what it appears to have fixed the problem. Boiler lights up fine when the CH kicks in. So hopefully that will be the end of it! Just annoyed that BG...
