Hot water doing a Lord Lucan...

How do you fill a cylinder slowly? Don't you just put the water on?

Hot water doing a Lord Lucan...

I think so, as there's water coming out of all the hot water taps. There is some water on the heating side, but shouldn't it gush out of the pump if you open the valve?

Hot water doing a Lord Lucan...

I've just qualified as a level 2 plumber, so this might be a daft question. I've been working on the drain-off cock below a boiler. It was leaking onto the pump and shorting out the electricity. I've replaced the cock, pump and pump valves as they were all worse for wear. The problem is...

    Plumblocal / Eleclocal

Even if I wanted to be the Plumblocal man I've realised I couldn't afford it. They're supposed to be ringing me to give me some money off because I'm already qualified, but they're not going to give me £30k off. Thanks for your replies anyway.

    Plumblocal / Eleclocal

Last time I went with a franchise (a Driving School) it cost me more money than it earned me, so I didn't get in deep and only staye for a trial period of a month. Some franchises are good and I can see the attraction of having a big name behind you. The fees seem to be disproportionately...

    Plumblocal / Eleclocal

Thanks undercover. Funnily enough, since I posted the question my wife looked on the website at their fees...she reckons I'd have to pay nearly £30k up front and then 15% of my takings for five years! Who's got £30k to splash out?! They seem to have a lot of locations covered, so...

    Plumblocal / Eleclocal

Has anyone had any dealings with these? I'm a newly qualified plumber (City & Guilds) who wouldn't mind some support as he sets out. Plumblocal are a franchising company that give admin support, but also technical support. I'm awaiting their information pack, but wondered if anyone has ever...

Cheap & Easy Way to Fill 40sqm..? Also, Turfing v Seeds

Thanks for the replies. I've bought some Canada Green Grass Seed (on offer at Argos!) I've yet to decide what to do about the front border and 20sqm at the back. A friend suggested I go to a builder's merchants and have a few tonnes of limestone (or equivalent) delivered. It sounds...

Cheap & Easy Way to Fill 40sqm..? Also, Turfing v Seeds

Thanks John. We've already put weedkiller down and the weeds are gone. At the moment it's just soil, so we'll have to do something to keep the weeds from returning. I don't know when we can re-plant, which is why we were thinking of chippings etc.

Cheap & Easy Way to Fill 40sqm..? Also, Turfing v Seeds

If I'm right, seeds will take a few weeks to really show. That'll be fine as the house won't be for sale for a month or so anyway. That's not a bad idea about grassing, especially for the front border. Thanks breezer.

Cheap & Easy Way to Fill 40sqm..? Also, Turfing v Seeds

I'm having a go at developing a rundown property. It's nearly finished and I have two questions about the garden. FIRST We've got: 1) A border round the front garden, which is 1m wide x 20m long. 2) An area in the back garden, which is 4m x 5m. So, 20sqm at the front and 20sqm at the...

    Bubbly Wallpaper...

That's curable then! We're probably rushing and not letting the paste soak in. Maybe we should paste a couple of pieces at a time and let one soak while we hang the other. Thanks again for your help.

    Bubbly Wallpaper...

It's bubbly rather than bumpy. We haven't sized the walls on account of the fact that we've never heard of it and don't know what it is. I think the best thing for the existing pieces is to use the razor blade trick. After that maybe we'll 'size' the walls. Err, can anyone say...

    Bubbly Wallpaper...

We've got a four-bedroomed house to wallpaper, top to bottom. We started last week but despite our best efforts the wallpaper is bubbly. The obvious answer is to put lining paper on first, but it's a big job as it is when compared with the time we've got to do it, and this would seem to be...

    Where's my hot water gone..?!

Would connecting the cold to the hot in the kitchen blow the air out of the system? I could do with knowing before I buy a hose. Thanks very much.

    Where's my hot water gone..?!

I checked the gate valve and it's fine, so I'll give that suggestion a try. Just to make sure I understand correctly: I need to connect the rising main to the tap that doesn't work, so effectively the water is going backwards, so eventually pushing the air out of the vent pipe. Could I...

    Where's my hot water gone..?!

Thanks. I'll check when I get there later this morning. I haven't touched it though so I don't think it's that.

    Where's my hot water gone..?!

I'm training to be a plumber at College, and I'm replacing a bathroom for the first time. This is what I did: I drained the water, re-piped for the new bath and basin, turned the water back on and hey presto, there's no hot water. I've checked the flow and return pipes - they feel hot, but...
