Plumbers/heating engineers- is this standard? (Value of scrap) (Ed.)

It's a £14k job, and yes I expect to be asked as it is my property. Perhaps I should round down the invoice by £50 and see if they mind. Thermostat + hub- not in box. Looks dirty/used. It is just obvious when something isn't new. No instruction manual. A really old version no longer available...

Plumbers/heating engineers- is this standard? (Value of scrap) (Ed.)

We currently have heating engineers in for quite a large job. Prior to this we've had a few other reasonably major jobs done including removal of an old vented copper cylinder to unvented (different company). On both occasions some old parts which I would not consider waste, have been removed...

    Yorkshire fittings advice please.

I've used loads of yorkshire fittings when redoing plumbing in our house and never added extra solder- a great invention for sure. The main benefit I find (with the assistance of a decent rothenberger torch as mentioned above) is the ability to solder one handed when joints situated in various...

    Bathroom electrics (for smart toilet)

Hi all, I'm renovating a bathroom at the moment and the wife has requested a smart toilet. This requires an electrical supply to heat a small HW reservoir. Regarding regs, how should this be approached? Does this require a cable running from the main fuse box with it's own RCD, supplying only...

    Wall Panelling or Tiles

Tiles, and epoxy grout which is far more resistant to discolouration as it is impermeable (unlike normal grout, hence why it causes problems). Nice tiles look far better than any panels, in my opinion....

    Sub contracting

Absolutely. Full heat loss calcs, and I've paid a visit to a previous customer to look at their install as well. We wrote off 4 or 5 other companies before going with this one, so it was really disappointing this appeared to be going a bit bendy after we thought we had made the right decision...

    Sub contracting

Yes. I’ve raised it with them and I believe they are going to now delay the job for a short time to avoid sub contracting. As for whether it affects anything- my trust in them when they specifically said they weren’t going to do this. How do I know how good their sub contractors are when...

    Sub contracting

Because it changes your perspective on things and seemed like we were going down the road of it being the customers fault for not requiring this to be specified in a written contract. I could have asked for a lot of things in writing, but practically speaking it simply isn't possible. I just...

And? They didn't put in writing that they might sub contract the work out.

    Sub contracting

Hi all, A bit of a dilemma I’d appreciate advice on. We are getting a ashp install to replace a gas boiler. We chose a company based on local reputation and in house knowledge and experience. The guy who turned up says he does them all and says all work done in house (they have in house...

Hot and cold pipes reversed for shower- how best to fix

I did think of that but don’t want to go for that option. I’d rather get the pipework right.

Hot and cold pipes reversed for shower- how best to fix

Hi all, I'm renovating a shower room at the moment- it was hardly used hence why this plumbing error (not my work) probably slipped my mind or I didn't notice.... I've just redone the pipework for my shower valve (which I have already purchased, well outside return window and no option to...

    Space saving bathroom refit.

We went through a few different ones when redoing our first floor shower room. I’d steer clear of humidistat/motion sensing ones. As the ambient humidity in the uk is quite high anyway we couldn’t get them to work properly and would always go off at random times when wet/raining outside even...

    Choice of shower

We've got this shower mixer which we are very happy with: https://www.screwfix.com/p/triton-elina-exposed-mixer-shower-valve-fixed-chrome/642fj Would echo above with respect to access/replacement in future, and writing off electric shower (we've had one before and there's no going back once...

    Ensuite Nightmares

I would be looking at grout and slight tray movement when someone is stood in it. Hence why just re-siliconing it without weighing down the shower tray might not have worked. I would recommend doing as suggested- stand in shower, shower head directed at small areas and ideally if you have...
