How much is your annual Electricity usage. Mine is 5,145 kWhs

You can't really take any useful info from comparing unless somebody has Exactly the same setup and habits as you. For example, I have a 5 bedroom detached house with one electric oven, a microwave, all LED lighting and a couple of laptops, no cctv, a wired house alarm, 55 inch LCD TV and 50...

The rest of the system was updated in 2006. Glow-worm/BG330 condensing boiler on an S plan etc. The cylinder wasn't changed that's all. I shall leave it as it is! Thanks for the responses.

1979 hot water cylinder - worth changing?

Hi folks, The hot water cylinder in my house is an indirect copper cylinder which was installed in 1979. It's in good order and has plenty of after market insulation on it. I am just wondering if you knowledgable plumbers think swapping to a new L1b compliant cylinder would have any drastic...

    Infrared heater - wiring question

What are the dimensions of the bathroom? How far from the bath/shower are you wanting to fit the heater? This will be the installation of a new circuit in a "special location" and so is notifiable or must be done by a qualified electrician.

Anybody come across these dodgy items before?

No it does not have one. Currently we have established that's it does not conform to BS7671, Machinery directive 2006/42/EC, the supply of machinery regulations 1998 and 73/23/EEC Needless to say it's being returned and the company being reported to TS

Anybody come across these dodgy items before?

Unfortunately there is no procurement officer. Each department is responsible for talking with suppliers and ordering, but all machinery comes through our department for mechanical and electrical inspection and testing before it's allowed into service. The firm supplying this piece of kit claims...

Anybody come across these dodgy items before?

Just had a machine delivered at work which was allegedly manufactured in the uk but it turns out it's come from China (oh dear here we go) Opened it up when it failed pat test and found this: "Chint" C5 mcb (hmm c5?) Incorrect colour supply cables including solid green earth What looks to be...

    Where has he gone?

I liked B-A-S I've been here for a few years and he was here when I started coming. For me, it won't be the same old place without B-A-S. he may have been very strict with newbies especially those who refuse to take the right advice, but let's be honest he said a lot of things we all wanted to...

What qualifications should I expect to see?

"But there is nothing stopping a company employing me to do electrical work without ever seeing my qualifications, all they need to do is look on the electro role to see that I am British and am allowed to work in this country, or see my passport. At my age I could have done an apprenticeship...

    Inspection Chamber Benching

Hi, We had an inspection chamber repaired yesterday as the original benching had broken up and foul was getting snagged on the sharp edges. The repair took place whilst I was at work and the Mrs forgot to ask the builder how long to leave the fresh benching concrete to cure before we can use...

Identifying earth with clear 3 core flex

Do you have a multimeter? If so, set it to ohms, null the leads (touch then together to verify you get a reading at or around 0 ohms) and then hold one lead tip against the metal on the bayonet lamp holder and then use the other lead tip to touch each of the three wires in turn. When the...

2 Way Light Switch - 1 Switch is back to front

Even the cheapest, most disgraceful knock off Chinese electricals and electronics come with instructions even if they are so bad they don't make much sense.

2 Way Light Switch - 1 Switch is back to front

You really expect us to believe that the cable feeding the psu is a separate circuit just for that one power supply fed from its own MCB in the consumer unit? L-O-L If so, where's the relevant stickers to warn future owners and electricians that the psu and lamps are fed from a dedicated...

2 Way Light Switch - 1 Switch is back to front

Hmmmm. Obviously not that well designed and perfectly functioning, as the light switch was back to front and the industrial power supply (traco power?) isn't suitably protected from ingress and also hasn't got a dedicated MCB as stipulated in the manufacturers installation instructions.
