    Cutting Vinyl Sheet

Hi Everyone Been busy - thanks for all the advice it helped a lot - the vinyl went like a dream! I had to cut it in the garden on a large tarpaulin (no room big enough). Taped the template to the vinyl - cut around. If I'd had a more level surface I could have cut it a lot closer and just...

    Cutting Vinyl Sheet

Thanks Am I right thinking it is best to cut as vertical down as possible and not with the blade horizontal to the floor? I've made a thin cardboard template of the room (dog leg with an understairs wall to cut out). I thought I would stick it with masking tape to the Vinyl and cut round it...

    Cutting Vinyl Sheet

Hi Everyone Any advice on this? Going to be laying some vinyl. What is the best sort of knife / blade to use for trimming the edges. Should I use a hooked blade or a standard stanley type? I presume they are designed for different cutting situations. Thanks Granny

    Backless Kitchen Cabinets

Hi all Good advice and some interesting ideas. The wall looks flat and square until you put up a flat, square, rigid machine cut box against it and that really shows it up - lot of work to make the back fit the wall! You lot have given me the creeps talking about mice and crawling things...

    Backless Kitchen Cabinets

Then you're shelfs are too narrow and have to be cut to size. If you have built units delivered you risk damaging the carcass when you break it apart to get the backs out and if there is a cornice try and get that back on?. Flat pack maybe - but more work. ??? :?

    Backless Kitchen Cabinets

Hi JD Ain't got no mice !! Hopefully. I can sort the backs butting up to the wall they have been replastered and are pretty good. The gap between the wall and the back and the bit of white hardboard that goes with it is what I have taken out - it smelt damp and musty and when the counter top...

    Backless Kitchen Cabinets

Hi Posting here 'cos I can't see that it fits anywhere else!! Don't know if anyone can help or has an opinion with this? I have noticed that all the kitchen cabinets I have seen have service voids or some call them utility spaces and solid backs in the cabinets. Most of the walls that I will...

    Sheet Vinyl Floor

The saga continues ! Here is what I I'm thinking of doing. My kitchen is 3.5 x 4.7 mtrs. U / J sort of shape with an under staircase and a long thin cutout through for the supporting wall . I've never done this before so........ I've got brown paper floor underlay 20 sq mtrs. I'm...

    Sheet Vinyl Floor

Thanks Got it now - I suppose if the base isn't firm enough it could stretch and puncture with the weight of traffic as it is pushed down into the soft undersurface. Granny

    Sheet Vinyl Floor

Hi Thanks No easy solution good idea plywood. I have the skirts off so I could lay plywood and leave and expansion gap but with a risk of damp from the concrete I would have to get WBP I think to be safe. I have seen some insulation for laminate flooring foil backed with a really dense foam...

    Sheet Vinyl Floor

Hi Frank It's a 1930's house I doubt there is insulation in the concrete floor slab - very cold in a room that hardly sees the sun!! It had thin vinyl tiles on before - vinyl cushion floor would be a bit warmer but I would prefer insulation if I could. Thanks Granny

    Damp concrete floor

Hi Kybert I have a similar situation in my concrete floor. Just a note - as from August 2006 you will need Building Control Application. no planning perm. think it has to do with the thermal insulation in any new floor. Granny

    Sheet Vinyl Floor

Hi Frank Loose lay cushion floor vinyl but it's going down on an uninsulated concrete floor and I was hoping I could get something as an underlay / insulation that was not too thick. Granny

    Sheet Vinyl Floor

Hi Anyone know of a good insulation to put under Sheet Vinyl that is not too thick and is it better to lay the sheet vinyl before and then build the kitchen on top - much less cutting, or build the kitchen and cut the sheet vinyl around it? I've never fitted it before and wonder if it is...

    Looks like Bad Workmanship

Hi Took out the lower kitchen cupboards and it looks like the floor "levelling stuff / cement" compound or whatever they used was put on after the cabinets were fitted (eh what  I can see the ridge. Anyway looks like the concrete was poured with a batten against the wall so when they...

    Sealing Concrete

Hi Noseall Never thought about condensation another aggravating factor! Didn't think there would be an easy option but I was wondering - if you can get injectable DPM's for walls why can't you apply something to the surface of the concrete that works in the same manner and let gravity and the...

    Sealing Concrete

Hi Feel bad but I have decided to try and repair my concrete kitchen floor. Would love to rip it up but the cost is too much. I've ground it flat and cleaned up all the old levelling compound and adhesive but I need to seal it to prevent moisture coming up. I've been looking at Ardex...

    Chiselling concrete floor

Hi Everyone Been progressing this problem, seems that due to a recent amendment (think about August 2006), I don't need Planning Permission but do need Building Control Application for this job about £450 I think. Going to be expensive to replace about 18 - 20 sq. metres - looking for someone...

    Chiselling concrete floor

Hi Woody No mortgage - bought outright for cash from the local authority with a 40% discount - reckon they are glad to get shut of them. At the time I had been living in the property for 2 years with no problem and thought that it wouldn't take 40% of the purchase price to put it right! Oh...
