Telly progs and materials like plasterboard

The program is interesting to see what you can get for under £100k, and where the best places are to save money. But TBH, I think it is just vehicle for pretentious architects and designers to try out stupid ideas. The £50k house was quite a bargain, and would have looked half decent if it...

new temporary floor screed without slab

If a jobs worth doing........... Live with the tiles until you can do things properly. If you find it too cold, buy a cheap carpet runner that you can stand on while working in the kitchen. http://www.floormats.co.uk/kitchen-carpet-beige As long as its not too long, it can be rolled up...

Newbie needs lots and lots of advice :)

Sorry, don't know anything about plastering, but just wondered what vent you have removed and why. If a vent was present, it must have been there for a reason?

fitting fence panels to chain link posts

What about something like this then? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Security-Fence-Band-Fencing-Panel-Concrete-Post-Safety-/250358388273 I know they are only supposed to be to secure your panels against lifting, but I don't see why you couldn't have one either side of the fence panel, bolted...

fitting fence panels to chain link posts

Is there any reason why you cannot just use standard fence clips like these... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/271122530018?lpid=54&device=c&adtype=pla&crdt=0&ff3=1&ff11=ICEP3.0.0&ff12=67&ff13=80&ff14=54&ff19=0 but instead of nailing them as you would to a wooden post, you could drill, plug and...

    tiny extension - need foundation??

Just google foundations or foundation design, there are loads of plans and charts etc to let you know what needs doing. If you are going down the route of building regs, then they will also let you know whats needed. TBH, if the area is concreted, then in order to get a neat edge, I would stihl...

    tiny extension - need foundation??

If its just a store to keep bikes out of the rain, why go to the bother of what sounds like a particularly ugly bodge lean to, when you could just buy a decent shed?

    Soil from digging foundations

If you are having them dug, then the contractor can probably arrange removal. It will avoid double handling of the spoil if they can remove it straight into a skip or trailer.

Metal container used as shelter leaking!

Buy a cheap spray paint (or even just a waterproof magic marker) and when it next rains, go inside and mark all the leaking areas - hey presto, next time its dry, transfer the marks to the outside using judicious measuring and fix said holes with your preferred method. If you live in a rural...

Metal container used as shelter leaking!

If you're talking about a metal shipping container, I would just bung some sealant over the holes. If they are particularly large and you want a lasting fix, get someone in to weld a couple of patches over them.

Best vapour barrier for bitumin/asphalt floor

I have previously fitted a solid wood floating floor over an asphalt floor over fibreboard underlay and did not use any sort of vapour barrier. 7 years later its still fine.

Do I have a cellar or do I not?

Shouldn't be too big a job to remove an airbrick to enable you to have a much better look inside. Just a matter of either using a bolster or an angle grinder to remove the mortar, then mortaring it back in afterwards. Even if you break the airbrick in doing so, they are cheap as chips unless its...
