    If it was my house, I would take down all the plasterboard, remove all the old insulation, add new kingspan/cellotex between what was supporting the plasterboard, then add some of the same underneath so you have a nice shiny silver surface, refit foil backed plasterboard and skim.

    Anyone with that level of incompetence you should then get rid of them. If I were fixing it, I would get my blow torch out, but since you are diy, use acropol.
