Thanks for those replies guys, can't get internals out so have bought a compression fitting with a thread on and a drain cock that screws in so if it happens again i can just change the cock.

Lastly am i also right in thinking that i can still have the hot water on without it affecting this at all? Seems like a stupid question but i want to be a hundred percent certain.

Am i right in thinking that as this is on the CH return i could cut out the 'T' piece without water gushing everywhere ( the system is empty now and the water feed is switched off) My intention is (unless the drain cock is fixable) to cut out the 'T' and if i can find a fitting long enough...

This is what is at fault. i can tighten the outer knurled ring but the square nut through the middle is loose i can't tighten it so can't stop the flow of water any ideas?

right just been back to the AAV i took the little black screwcap completely off and there was nothing. Did i remove the right part? And if so what does it signify? Cheers, Tony.

Right have checked AAV now was closed as oppose to loose, have loosened it a bit. Undid the black nut on the pump and by some crafty waggling about i could get some air to come out, in fact quite a lot of air to come out. Eventually it did spit some water out but literally only a few spits...

If i had asked a plumber (or any tradesman) out on an emergency call and they had been there for 2 hours and supplied parts, then left having repaired the problem and made good i would expect to pay £150 easy. In my area it would average £80 call out, which would cover the first hour, then £60...

If you open both heads on a rad slightly, turn the heating on. Then every few minutes feel the 2 pipes going in and out of that rad, the pipe which gets hot first is the TRV end and the pipe that stays cold is the lockshield end. Hope that helps. Tony. P.s. I know that you can get TRV's...

Yep, the pressure problem appears to be sorted, 3 days of having the heating on and off for different lengthd of time and no probs so far. I think the system will settle as Kevplumb has said and if i re-balance it should hopefully be back to normal. Thank you one and all.

Did that, no water before or after pressurising. Have the system on now and after going through old posts i have loosened the black nut whilst the heating is on. I left it for a while with no sign of water, but it was rattling about as the spindle was spinning so i tightened it up as to avoid...

By Large flat screw do you mean the large black bolt head in the centre of the pump? The only large screw i can find is the drain screw underneath the pump. If i undo the drain screw i get some dripping and some air but if i loosen it far enough to get the air out the water starts to spray...
