    help with pipe

In my worked up state i didn't think about the bleed valves, thanks for being the voice of reason. Guage says a big fat zero, has actually almost stopped now.

    help with pipe

Further to my other thread about broken drain cocks. I have drained down my system as completely as i can (potterton puma 80 combi) as the drain has been open all day. The drain is on the 'CH return' pipe directly under the boiler. I have disconnected the 'CH return' pipe from the mains water...

    Help Drain valve wont close!!!

Thanks for those replies guys, can't get internals out so have bought a compression fitting with a thread on and a drain cock that screws in so if it happens again i can just change the cock.

    Help Drain valve wont close!!!

Lastly am i also right in thinking that i can still have the hot water on without it affecting this at all? Seems like a stupid question but i want to be a hundred percent certain.

    Help Drain valve wont close!!!

Am i right in thinking that as this is on the CH return i could cut out the 'T' piece without water gushing everywhere ( the system is empty now and the water feed is switched off) My intention is (unless the drain cock is fixable) to cut out the 'T' and if i can find a fitting long enough...

    Help Drain valve wont close!!!

This is what is at fault. i can tighten the outer knurled ring but the square nut through the middle is loose i can't tighten it so can't stop the flow of water any ideas?

    Help Drain valve wont close!!!

I drained my CH system to clean the AAV as per my other thread "A tad foncused" and now the drain won't close properly, it will get to the point of almost tight then it just spins without closing the valve completely. I can open it again but when i try to close it the same thing happens. What...

    A tad foncused!

hello again, I have read another thread regarding the same issue with an AAV, that explains removing and cleaning. What is the correct procedure for cleaning? Thanks in advance, Tony.

right just been back to the AAV i took the little black screwcap completely off and there was nothing. Did i remove the right part? And if so what does it signify? Cheers, Tony.

    A tad foncused!

Right have checked AAV now was closed as oppose to loose, have loosened it a bit. Undid the black nut on the pump and by some crafty waggling about i could get some air to come out, in fact quite a lot of air to come out. Eventually it did spit some water out but literally only a few spits...

    Rogue customer?

If i had asked a plumber (or any tradesman) out on an emergency call and they had been there for 2 hours and supplied parts, then left having repaired the problem and made good i would expect to pay £150 easy. In my area it would average £80 call out, which would cover the first hour, then £60...

    A tad foncused!

Still got this porblem guys, can only have 3 rads on at a time, 1 hot and 2 warm. There is a lot of noise in the boiler (sound of air circulating) i'm sure it must need bleeding. I need somebody to tell me exactly how to bleed my pump (Myson in a Potterton 80, octagonal black nut one) and what...

    balancing radiators

If you open both heads on a rad slightly, turn the heating on. Then every few minutes feel the 2 pipes going in and out of that rad, the pipe which gets hot first is the TRV end and the pipe that stays cold is the lockshield end. Hope that helps. Tony. P.s. I know that you can get TRV's...

    A tad foncused!

Right Guys, The Pressure of the system has levelled out now at a constant 1.5, my problem now is i can't balance the system. I start off by closing every rad except the one which is futhest away, but if i open any other rad in the system as much as half a turn, the furthest away one goes off. I...

    A tad foncused!

Yep, the pressure problem appears to be sorted, 3 days of having the heating on and off for different lengthd of time and no probs so far. I think the system will settle as Kevplumb has said and if i re-balance it should hopefully be back to normal. Thank you one and all.

Did that, no water before or after pressurising. Have the system on now and after going through old posts i have loosened the black nut whilst the heating is on. I left it for a while with no sign of water, but it was rattling about as the spindle was spinning so i tightened it up as to avoid...

    A tad foncused!

Thanks for that Ian. This morning i drained the system using the drain under the boiler. Pressure dropped to 0. I then checked the pressure at the schraeder valve and that was 0 also. I pumped it up to 15lbs. Whilst doing this i left the drain open. After doing so i checked the system pressure...

Thanks for that Kevplumb. I wasn't wanting to bleed the EV, i was trying to bleed the pump but there was nothing there. (i realise that my post was misleading, will proof read in future). I have read up on the EV and pressurising it. Do i need a pressure guage on the schraeder valve or does...

    A tad foncused!

Thanks for that i will search for expansion vessel. How should the boiler be set while i'm bleeding it? The system is cool, heating and hot water off, then i have isolated the power. I have loosened the black bolt (it was only hand tight is that correct?) to the point that it is almost out and...

    A tad foncused!

By Large flat screw do you mean the large black bolt head in the centre of the pump? The only large screw i can find is the drain screw underneath the pump. If i undo the drain screw i get some dripping and some air but if i loosen it far enough to get the air out the water starts to spray...
