Extension - thermalite, trusses... or not?

Thanks chaps - really helpful and interesting feedback. What are your thoughts on cavity (90mm insulation and 10mm gap) versus solid wall with cavity bats - putting the blocks issue to one side? With these thermalite blocks, what I'm getting is that they are a bit crap but will do the job...

Extension - thermalite, trusses... or not?

Hi all! I'm getting a single storey side extension added to my bungalow. 4m x 6.5m. It will come off an existing hip roofed out rigger. Builder has said: - he doesn't like thermalite blocks. U values are good but quality poor. They crack and the walls don't seem very strong with the poor...

Rust from shower (hot water side)

Alright chaps. I've added some photos. Some further information. The screw cap where the rust is coming from actually has a gap on both side of the central hole. So water could be getting into the cap through that when the shower is in use. Hot water so steam. There is some kind of brass type...

Rust from shower (hot water side)

Hi all, I've provided photos below. My shower mixer has the hot and cold water pipes going right through the wall and into the cubicle from the boiler cupboard. There are two round screw caps that enclose the part where the copper pipes go into the mixer. I've noticed rust stains below the...

Mortar below sill of new door frame...

The step isn't connected to wall, there's a gap. I just put two loose pieces of stone on top. Behind the step is some sloped mortar so any water can run out and then down the stones which fall away from the house. How do I ensure the best mortar that will last without cracking?

Mortar below sill of new door frame...

Hi all, I've just had this new door frame fitted. Underneath the sill needs finishing off. A DPC was put on top of the pre existing bricks at the bottom and foam has been squirted in to fill the main space below the sill (see photos). I won't go into why this space exists or remains, too long...

    February Build Start?

Hi all, If my house extension project begins construction in February, so foundations being dug, brick laying, concrete being poured, etc. are there any concerns about frost / freezing damage to concrete or masonry? How would you mitigate against that? Or, is it best to begin building 1st March...

    Flow temp vs power rating

Doesn't lower return temp mean more condensing temperatures so higher efficiency ?

    Flow temp vs power rating

I just did a test and it tripped at 61C (flow temp is 57) but wad probably near 62 when it tripped. Will lowering the pump setting from 2 to 1 reduce the return flow temp (water in radiators for longer)? Trying to decide what the best setting is... I just noticed after it tripped that it never...

    Flow temp vs power rating

It is happening yes ' it over shoots flow temp then stops and cycles for a while (5 mins probably, as in the anti fast time). When I say over shoots, it doesn't happen quickly like 10 seconds or whatever. It will be on the set flow temp for a bit, then a degree higher for a bit and so on. I...

    Flow temp vs power rating

If TRVs are rejecting hot water from the boiler, isn't it inevitable that the flow temperature at the boiler will overshoot, so the trip is supposed to stop stop burning gas and cycle the hot water for a bit? Or are you saying this shouldn't be happening?

    Flow temp vs power rating

SP+5C is a fairly prudent setting IMO, because, one, you don't want the temperature to exceed SP+5C on refiring, its quite difficult to get this spot on by just adjusting the anticycle time or the temperature that the boilrer refires at, Anti fast flow temp -12, in your case, two, is that when...

    Flow temp vs power rating

Hi mate, You've previously said: "It will stay running at 53C providing the heat load (rad TRVs throttling in) stays higher than the minimum output of the boiler, once the heat load falls below the boiler minimum output then the return and flow will start rising until the flowtemp rises to...

    Flow temp vs power rating

Thanks for this, very helpful and interesting. Just to say, the boiler does reach the set flow temperature with the rating set to 9.1KW. Perhaps slower than might otherwise be the case. Presumably it saves electricity if not gas to have the rating lower? I have increased the rating to 12KW. I...

    Flow temp vs power rating

Hi all, I have my greenstar 25i combi set to 9.1KW and 53C flow temp. With the outside temperatures falling I want to know what would have the biggest effect on warmth indoors: - increasing the rating to say 10.5kw - increasing the flow temperature by 1 or 2 degrees - increasing the amount of...

    Draining system and inhibitor

Hello, I cleaned out my CH Fernox filter the other day. Not sure how much water came out. Maybe 4 litres. Refilled the system with water. Thinking I ought to have added inhibitor. Trouble is, I don't know what the plumber previously put in when the system was drained to add new radiators. I...

Flow Temp Rising Too Quickly - Fix?

I've had good advice here, thanks. Excuse my ignorance, but when you say "get the boiler away in one go" - what exactly does this mean, what is the objective? Is it to have a longer burning cycle without the chopping and changing of stop and start?

Flow Temp Rising Too Quickly - Fix?

Does this mean things will cool down more in the house? Does increasing the time for 2.3b basically achieve the same thing? - forces the boiler to wait longer between firing cycles?

Flow Temp Rising Too Quickly - Fix?

Thanks pal! So installing a new one outside boiler will do the job of the possibly seized one inside the boiler? Do you know how I clear these D4 341 error messages? Pressing reset and holding it etc doesn't get shut of it. So I don't know if it is a current problem or not regarding the temp...
