    Wood above window

The wire mesh is there to help plaster stick to the wood so will have to be replaced before plastering. The plasterer will use something like this http://www.wickes.co.uk/Wickes-Galvanised-Steel-Reinforcing-Mesh-115mm-x-20m/p/224683 and tack it in place over the wood to stop the plaster...

Is it ok to skim over emulsion

A wire wheel may scuff the surface too much, personally I would scratch the surface with one of these http://www.screwfix.com/p/purdy-6-in-1-painters-surface-preparation-tool/67975 say 15cm apart at a diagonal. Mike

Is it ok to skim over emulsion

You have a couple of options 1. Lightly score the area to create a key for the plaster 2. Give the area a coat of blue grit https://www.toolstation.com/shop/p84905?table=no which is pva mixed with grit to form a mechanical key. You can always score it and put blue grit on it as well ( belt and...

Removing Artex (stuck to plaster) from ceiling?

If the ceiling has got distemper on it then you have two choices 1. Overboard the ceiling and plaster as normal 2. Give the ceiling a coat of stabilising solution, let it dry then plaster. The thing with distemper is that pva alone will not prep the ceiling adequately for the plaster to grip...

Paint problem on newly plastered wall

If I have ever had a problem like that, I've given the areas a coat of acrylic or oil based undercoat and another emulsion and it usually does the job . Mike

    Looking for this replacement part

Without seeing what that piece latches onto I can only guess that it looks part of a magnetic latch and the magnet part has fallen off. Perhaps you could post a picture of the other part of the latch to give us a better idea of the sort of part that you are looking for. Mike

    Painting new galvanised gate

IMHO your local decorating store is only selling you the bulls eye 123 to get a bit more custom out of you and I don't think it will add anything to the adhesion of the all coat. But if you are happy and for piece of mind then go with their advice. Mike

    Painting new skirting

I would definitely use knotting on the bare knots as even though they appear dry , they will bleed through at some point. Then to save coats of paint and time I would use this http://www.zinsseruk.com/product/allcoat-solvent-based/ as it will do the job and last. Mike
