Can someone identify what this might be?

Thanks for all the replies. I too think this is old heating of some sort as it is tracing the same route. Initially I couldn't see if the pipe came from the ceiling or wall at the top but having taken the picture and zoomed in, I'm confident that it is coming from the ceiling. When I get the...

Can someone identify what this might be?

I've just stuck my phone back in there with the torch to see if I could get a pic of where the pipe leads to/from up top and it looks like it traces the heating pipes route. The house is a 70's build, is this how they used to do things back then? IMG_5038 by onionsa posted 21 Dec 2017 at 5:14 PM

No thats the right pipe, but they're kinks in the copper(?) pipe. Its about an inch in diameter to give you a scale.

This one isn't insulated. I'm wondering if it could have been the original boiler location or something like that. We've always had the combi in the loft since we lived here. Puzzling to say the least this one!!

Can someone identify what this might be?

The wall is an interior wall between our house and the neighbours, and it is their hallway on the other side of the wall. The heating pipes can be seen in the bottom of the first picture just about. I should have included them more for clarity. I could get access to that part of the floor...

Can someone identify what this might be?

I was just having a nose in a large pipe box which I assumed only had 2 heating pipes in for a radiator that I'm planning on moving, and to my horror I find a large pipe lurking in the darkness. It looks the size of other gas pipes that I have located around the house but I can't for the life of...

Under cupboard lighting for the kitchen

John, thanks so much for taking the time to put that together. I had the top diagram in mind, but it is good to recieve confirmation that I was on the right lines and that there is also option 2 if space is tight in the rose terminals.

I'll look at running a second T+E and a junction box as first choice. In my mind this will keep it simple and separate. What size T+E would I be looking at for this 1.0 or 1.5?

Under cupboard lighting for the kitchen

There is a normal ceiling rose in there at the moment, and switch plate next to the door. What I'd like to do is put in a 2 gang switch plate for neatness so that they can be controlled separately.

    Extending the ring main

I picked up a pack of 10 the other day and was surprised at how small they are. Fitting 3 in shouldn't be a problem at all.

Under cupboard lighting for the kitchen

Thanks for the info, so it seems I’m good to just carry on from the ceiling rose. I’m guessing I could just use a junction box to act as a ceiling rose to split off to the switch and drivers?

Under cupboard lighting for the kitchen

Ok so just gave the wife the choice and she’d like them to be able to be on by themselves like the ‘feature’ mentioned above. It will be LEDs I’m sure. So would I be looking to join this to the existing light circuit with a junction box like a spur and fit a second switch/FCU and the get the...

Under cupboard lighting for the kitchen

Hi all, just after some advice on how to approach this part of a project. I'm planning a G-shape kitchen with wall units on 3 of the 4 walls and would like to install under cupboard lighting. What recommendations could you give in terms of wiring layout for this? Many thanks.

    Lifting floor board

Covered in Plyboard I might add... The joys of buying a rented property I guess. There is a lot of wiring under there which is one of the other reasons I need access so I'll be sure to go carefully. I think I could avoid putting any blades in there as it is coming apart of its own accord as I...

    Lifting floor board

Hi all, I'm doing some exploratory work around the bathroom in preparation of some other work and will at some point be replacing the flooring as parts have got soaked and disintegrated. I'm trying to get this particular piece up, but it appears that the remaining nails are under the wall...

    Extending the ring main

If there isn't room for those connectors, I could always sink a deeper box. These seem like a pretty simple solution to what I'm after.

Would this be a suitable connector? https://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/DEBOX2.html Thanks for your input ericmark, does the illustration posted above constitute a Fig 8? Thanks.

    Extending the ring main

Due to the position of the existing sockets in the room, extending from one is about the best option. So should I look at 2x 30amp junction boxes sunk in the wall for this?

    Extending the ring main

Connectors, but not crimps...? The extension is for 2 double sockets at least so spur not really possible.
