Question about concrete and bonding agents

I have some of this stuff: https://www.wickes.co.uk/Sika-Bond-SBR%2B-Waterproof-Bonding-Agent-and-Mortar-Admixture---5L/p/133789 Some time in the next few weeks I intend to replace the badly rusting and fragmenting metal frames that my septic tank covers sit on, so once I've chipped away all...

Concrete fairly recently placed around a septic tank cover is breaking up - why?

A couple of months ago I applied some replacement concrete around the edge of my septic tank cover (some of the original concrete was old and cracking). I don't have a photo but just to give an idea of what I mean, I'm referring to the type of concrete edge as seen in this image I found online...

Fibre cable in my area damaged by birds because it's not been armoured

Recently my fibre connection went down, turns out that birds had pecked through the fibre cable somewhere in the local network (this is according to the Openreach report that my ISP can access). Seems that the fibre cable wasn't armoured. Let's hope that they have at least armoured the spliced...

Grey water pipe work - how to flush?

Thanks, didn't know that. Is there a chance that a pressure washer could damage the inside of a plastic pipe? My washer only goes up to 120 Bars.

Grey water pipe work - how to flush?

I'm noticing that the grey water downpipe in the ground that is fed from my kitchen sink and washing machine is running a bit high. In other words when water is pouring into it the water level in the downpipe is very close to the top (but not overflowing). This is though something that I've...

Union joint - trying to identify guttering width, etc

I have an outbuilding with some old guttering (more than 20 years old), a tree has broken one of the union brackets so there's now a gap in the gutter. Due to a bad back I currently can't shin up a ladder to check the width of the main guttering (with a view to at least ordering a replacement...

PVC Door creaking on at least one hinge

Have tried oiling the hinges using 3-in-1 oil but makes no difference (lifted up the top plastic cap above the pin to dribble some in). Or should I be using some kind of grease? All I have is copper grease and white grease. Was wondering if the door is just warping a bit due to the heat, but...

Need to cut a plastic water butt in half

Thanks, great tip, noted for future reference.

Need to cut a plastic water butt in half

Useful to know. I also had to drill some holes in the bottom and the drill bit completely gummed up with molten plastic and that was difficult to remove.

Need to cut a plastic water butt in half

Excess butt cracking is of course not a great idea. Thanks to you and the others for the suggestions. I'd also pondered using my Dremel but as the cutting discs are so small it may take some time .......

Need to cut a plastic water butt in half

I have an old 200 liter plastic water butt which I'd like to cut in half and use the lower half as a large tub. It's like this: https://evengreener.com/products/cloudburst-200-litre-water-butt-kit it has a 5 inch vertical split down one side which I've tried to repair many times using many...

Boiler water pump for radiators starting to make an intermittent relatively high pitched vibrating noise

Noted, thanks. Will update this thread if the initial problems return but once again many thanks for your help and detailed explanations.

Boiler water pump for radiators starting to make an intermittent relatively high pitched vibrating noise

As for the loose slider/lever on the left valve (hot water only) - so that may be normal for my set up? As for the last question, I can't see a speed setting switch, etc, anywhere on the pump.

Boiler water pump for radiators starting to make an intermittent relatively high pitched vibrating noise

Not sure what you mean there. I can feel a slight vibration from the pump when I turn on the boiler (then again I feel the same vibration from the valves too so I guess they are picking up vibration from the pump?) but I can also hear water sloshing around inside the pump so I guess the...

Boiler water pump for radiators starting to make an intermittent relatively high pitched vibrating noise

Left one is hot water, right is heating (same order as on the main control panel). The 'slides' on the sides of the valves move up/down as appropriate when hot water and heating are seleced so both appear to be functioning okay. Still puzzled why the left one is so easy to move compared to the...

Boiler water pump for radiators starting to make an intermittent relatively high pitched vibrating noise

Okay, done that. The pump didn't restart so ........ I guess that's good?

Boiler water pump for radiators starting to make an intermittent relatively high pitched vibrating noise

Couple of interesting things to report: First I took a look at the valves (which, incidentally, are Lifestyle 679H308-30L1 ). Both are mounted upside down. Powered off. The left one - the black lever very easily moves, no resistance at all. I put it back to its original position after this...

Boiler water pump for radiators starting to make an intermittent relatively high pitched vibrating noise

I've not heard the high-ish pitched vibration noise when the boiler has fired up, is that what you mean? I do though hear a slight trickling/movement of water when the boiler is quiet, indicating that water is being moved through the pipes. Also, if one or both valves were closed wouldn't that...
