Underfloor heating system not very efficient - what can i do

Behind the wall of where the boiler is hung, that is where we have the dining table. So I guess that is why there is a 40mm pipe which goes outside to the drains from the ground. I think that is what you mean. There are some paperwork that the contractors left us with, I need to dig them out...

Underfloor heating system not very efficient - what can i do

ooh dear so many highs and lows. can you please elaborate more on what is so bad with the install that renders the system dangerous enough to leave my entire family without heating whilst its rectified. Thanks.

The flow temp on post #36, is that radiator or cylinder, as it had the radiator icon next to it, doesn't it mean that its for rads, pardon my ignorance here this is all new to me. On one earlier post, i was advised to set it just a little higher then the blending valve temp.

OMG !(y)(y)(y)(y)(y)(y)(y)(y)(y)(y) I cant thank you enough. Your post is well written, in fact I have printed it and will be reading it every few hours. Talk of a constructive feedback, you are so good at it. This is exactly what I was looking for, detailed, well written and very informative...

Underfloor heating system not very efficient - what can i do

When its running the UFH is the return to the boiler cold? ITs not cold, its hot but not as hot as the flow which is as expected. What is the UFH pump speed set at? I have not touched this before, but please see the picture below. If i change it, it auto resets so have not really looked into it...

Underfloor heating system not very efficient - what can i do

Please see the picture below, I can see 2 pumps. One for the UFH which is black in colour and another which is red. The one for the UFH is fairly obvious what its for, the red one comes on all the time, but i think thats for heating and hotwater. not sure.

Underfloor heating system not very efficient - what can i do

When the stats are satisfied then the boiler stops, I read somewhere that the UFH can cycle water down even when the boiler is not heating. Could have misunderstood this. I set the boiler temp to eco, used to be on max before up till about a week ago. Boiler temp hovering around 55- 60 as we...

Underfloor heating system not very efficient - what can i do

 You just opened my eyes here, that's 7.5hrs difference and lets say 55KW used. So does that mean that even though the boiler was on for 2hrs, it was consuming gas at the rate of approx 7.5kw/hr ? Please help me understand it.

One other observation is that when the boiler goes and stops working, the manifold pump stops also. Is this normal ?

Underfloor heating system not very efficient - what can i do

I am not joking, see for yourself. Morning and just now. Just now The reason why i came on here was not to moan about having a ferrari of a heating system, its an uncommon setup and sadly there is no other household locally that i can compare with, hence the reason for asking if this is...

Underfloor heating system not very efficient - what can i do

Blender changed to 50c today, still about 50kw of gas used in 2hrs. The desired room temp is 21c, what temp should i set the stat ? Any suggestion as to the schedule, I will need pointers here please. For example 7am - 7pm set it to run at 19c, and then by 7pm, backset to 15c ?

Underfloor heating system not very efficient - what can i do

In terms of design for the UFH system, all I have is a diagram circuit design for the various zones and a bunch of manuals for the stats and manifold/pump etc. Nothing more unfortunately. The circuit design is the diagram on the first page which shows the various zones, the flow valves pictured...

Underfloor heating system not very efficient - what can i do

If i understand this well, it sounds like your cylinder is in a airing cupboard or a room which is also being heated from the heat loss from the cylinder. In my case, the cylinder is in the garage as that was the only space to put it. It was either there or we have no utility room internally.

Underfloor heating system not very efficient - what can i do

Please help me here, when you say 24/7 do you mean that its burning gas 24/7. Our hot water usage is minimal, only showers + hand washing + kitchen usage. Thats it. What temp do you set the stat on the cylinder do ? Do you mean your unvented cylinder ? In terms of how to set the underfloor, what...

Underfloor heating system not very efficient - what can i do

It's different, as we had a combi then, radiators only on a hefty 34kw boiler, and floor space was much less. On average then, gas bills £50 a month. Floor area about 80sqm not 100sqm. Zone A = 14sqm zone B = 10sqm Zone C and D = 28sqm Zone E= 25sqm To put it into perspective, zone D and E are...

Underfloor heating system not very efficient - what can i do

I am checking the gas usage by looking at the smart meter display unit. Should i be reading off the actual meter ? I found the smart meter stuff easier, with the meter, one will need to convert the readings to Kw/hr to work it out etc. The smart meter does all that for me. The hot water...

Underfloor heating system not very efficient - what can i do

For now all I can do is study the system myself. I cannot get hold of the contractor who did the installation to get the calcs etc. I will feel better if I can get a pro to evaluate the system and set it up correctly.
