    "Keyed" mains plug

They are completely incompatible. You can't plug either plug into either socket - so they do fulfil your requirement for preventing the unwanted loads being connected to your inverter sockets.

Power supply for domestic air conditioning split system

I wasn't commenting on the suitability of the original posters consumer unit - I was questioning the assertion that the circuit needed to be RCD protected.

Power supply for domestic air conditioning split system

But surely just about every air conditioning unit in any country where it may ever rain is at risk of being exposed to water? And I bet less than a fraction of a fraction of them are on RCD protected supplies because they don't need to be. What is the risk that you perceive?

Power supply for domestic air conditioning split system

Why would a permanently fixed air conditioning unit fed by SWA cable need an RCD? The fact that it is outside is irrelevant?

    Fixing railway sleepers

Hi I'm running a line of railway sleepers around the edge of my patio. They will be sitting directly on an old brick wall which I have taken down to ground level. I'm thinking a bed of mortar of some description will be the best thing? Any advice on how to mix and apply? Thanks!

    Dimmer switches

The issue is as much to do with the transformer in the fitting as it is the dimmer. You can't go far wrong if you use the Varilight dimmers and Varilight transformers (disconnecting whatever transformer was supplied with the fitting). Obviously, there is a risk of voiding the warranty here..

    Kitchen Downlighters

That's not a 'downlighter' issue as such, more a 'crap downlighter' issue. I completed my kitchen three and a half years ago and have yet to replace a single lamp.

The capping doesn't really count for anything and that installation is now only just marginally better than it was before. It seems to be a bizarre and pointless remedy.
