    Dimmer for 12V Transformer

I know this is technically true but it doesn't fit with my experience. I've got dozens upon dozens of halogen lamps in my house (much to the disdain of BAS), all of which are on dimmers and rarely if ever set to 100%. These were all installed seven years ago and I haven't replaced a single...

    Installing a new light fixture

No, the red on its own goes to your brown wire. No connection is made to the one with three reds.

    Installing a new light fixture

You don't appear to have any earth connection there, so I'm afraid you cannot install your new light fitting. You'll need to look for something that doesn't need an earth (probably plastic). -edit- too slow...!

    Low voltage wire system

Assuming it has blown, make sure you replace it with an identical one (the T bit is important). As ericmark said though, it shouldn't blow unless there's a problem. So you might find the replacement just blows straight away.

    Low voltage wire system

The unit has two fuses - a non-replacable (without hacking the thing apart) thermal fuse and a 20mm T2.5A one which presumably is user replaceable. Is it not in the black carrier at the top?

Neighbour's power tools tripping my RCD?

What you need is a visit from a proper electrician. One who will use an RCD tester to test your RCDs instead of just poking the test buttons a couple of times... That proved little if nothing.

hob oven and combi microwave wiring

I don't agree - I've just looked at half a dozen random cheap single ovens, and they all have power consumption in the 2.5k - 3kW range - so they are fine on a 13A plug. This isn't application of diversity - it's just a smaller load! There are - equally - lots of high end single ovens which...

hob oven and combi microwave wiring

Just about any mid range to high end product has multiple elements - including ones in the floor of the oven. It's not at all unusual. Microwave is a HME9750, can't remember the model number of my oven off the top of my head.

hob oven and combi microwave wiring

This is a moot point until someone shows that you are even able to apply diversity to a 13A plug/socket arrangement. I find it difficult to believe that you can.

hob oven and combi microwave wiring

That's bugger all to do with diversity, it's to do with the fact that the cheaper ovens don't let you use more than one element at once and will therefore be rated at something significantly less than 3000W

hob oven and combi microwave wiring

Yep - I was agreeing with you and validating your theoretical numbers. Diversity isn't real world though is it, it's a fudge, and partly relies on the fact the the circuit protection device and cable are actually overrated for just about every installation, and will easily be able to cope...

hob oven and combi microwave wiring

The 1kW figure is the output. Non-inverter microwaves (which this one is) are typically only 60-70% efficient, so the power consumption of the microwave part will probably be 1500-1600W. Couple that with the hot air at 1600W, then maybe another 100 odd watts for control panel, fans, lamps and...

hob oven and combi microwave wiring

Mine has a heating element in the bottom, a circular element in the back surrounded by the fan and a grill at the top. In other words, it's exactly the same as a real single oven, except it's a microwave as well. It has a quick heat up function which uses all three to get it to temperature...

The John Lewis product is a rebadged AEG MC3881E-M The manual for that product says:- It also doesn't mention plugs :)

hob oven and combi microwave wiring

The manual has clearly had some bad copy and paste done on it at some point. The rating of this appliance is 3400W and it cannot be plugged in.

hob oven and combi microwave wiring

Funny you should post that - I'd just noticed the very same thing. What a joke. So they list the 'Rated Power' as 3400W and then fit a plug to it. And we're supposed to trust the manufacturers instructions?!

hob oven and combi microwave wiring

In your example case, that is not true though - the manual is actually accurate:- It correctly shows the power of each section and the 'rated' power which is the maximum simultaneous draw. In the case of your unit, it is 2800W Bosch for example list all the power ratings of the...

Rating plate on my combi microwave is 3.52kW so it's not out of the question.

hob oven and combi microwave wiring

Neither of those can be plugged in... Both have a maximum power consumption that is too great - I can't see how you can apply diversity to them in that context. You can apply diversity across the circuit, but not on a single appliance as a way of squeezing it onto a 13A plug. Also, you...
