Can't tell from pic how close it is to your house. Obviously, make sure that distance is greater than the pole height if you intend pulling it down in one piece! Personally, I'd remove it in stages, as suggested above.
I've had that problem, but now always start the hole with a slightly smaller diameter bit than the plug diameter, then finish off with the correct size bit.
You need to find a temporary storage location for the food (friend/neighbour/insulated box?), then switch off the freezer and let all the ice thaw. Bowls of hot water on the freezer shelves can speed up the process. Thoroughly check that drainage to outside the freezer is totally clear of ice...
