    crane delivery damage

Which is likely to be an unfair contract term - so open to abuse. If the driver (or company) causes the damage its their problem. IOtherwise they coudl be totally reckless and leave liability with the innocent homeowner.

    crane delivery damage

I woudl say liability is with whoever the delivery driver works for. I had the same - council came and fixed it immediatley - I don't think they even asked for the details of the delivery company that caused my damage. Although mine was a tarmac fill in job - yours looks like a bit more work.

    Mist coat - chalky finish

I used Leyland Contract Matt to mist coat 1 room (many more rooms to do). The instructions say 9 parts paint 1 part water. Infact I did 8 parts paint 2 parts water as I was cocnerned 9 to 1 was too thick. The paint is dry and is a chalky finish - t when I touch it I get residue on my fingers...

Thanks - I did wodner why they sell larger angled brushes - which I presume are always for cutting in. Whilst you are here - 1 mist coat or 2 - so much different info on the net - guy in Brewers said 1 and an ex decorator I met also said 1. I spsoe the better question is, is there a way of...

    Cutting in - brush thickness

I need to paint a house. I went into Brewers (trade decorating shop) and asked for the tools I needed to do my mist coat. For cutting in the guy suggested a very thin brush and to take the roller right up to the edge of the wall.. Now I see that you might use a thick brush and then take the...

    Getting Quotes for Works

Good for you but in the line of my work having dealt with numerous tradesman disputes I stand by my advice. I've seen too many consumers done over.

    Getting Quotes for Works

Clients obviously. Buidlers can protect themselves with staged payments or gettign the customer to buy large orders direct if they wish. I think for high value jobs though the buidler may not win a job if they cannot fund some of it to start. I am sure there are builders of both types out...

    Getting Quotes for Works

Course they do but I would be wary of paying large amounts upfront. Some of the people I got quotes for were happy to incur their costs and then I pay them a fixed amount each week - with them making a profit at the end. If they can do that then it demonstrates they have the resources to run a...

    Getting Quotes for Works

I am going through a similar thing at the moment. Firstly write up what you want - be specific if you have a particular item in mind - say a brand of kitchen or a model of boiler (or even the fact you want gas/plastic pipes). I would find 10-15 email addresses and send them all an email asking...

Bonding - plastic pipes - outside toilet

Electrician mentioned that a connection will need to be made to the water mains and gas mains - I believe that an earth cable will be used - if this is main bonding then that is fine as it will be done. I think what I am talking about is supplementary bonding. Supplementary bonding is not...

I am having a full re-wire. I have all copper pipework inside the house. I understand I need an earth connection to the water and gas mains. All of my circuits will have RCD so I udnerstand the copper pipes don't need to be earthed. I also have an outside shed which as 3 rooms - one of which...

I need to put in some copper pipe up to a bath tap. I am going to use a compression fitting tap connector. Which makes of sanitary ware and taps to buy?

I recently spent ages racking my brains looking for a toilet for a cloak room and in the end went with Ideal Standard as they did a toilet that was very compact. The guy in the shop said it was a mid range toilet and some of their others are in the higher range. I have now got the toilet and...

Failing retaining wall - total or part-rebuild?

Unless there is damage to the left side a repair may be the best thing but it could get messy if they have to start taking the frame off from above Are the walls tied together if any way? You might be able to see down the broken part. It looks to me that there is mud on the other wise of...
