I don't know where to start with this. You've essentially argued that the alarms you fit are pointless and a dummy bell box would be a cheaper and better solution. You also seem to be making things up that I haven't said or inferred. So, are you saying that a dummy bell box alone is...

Again, it's this really strange attitude that because something hasn't happened in the past, it won't in the future. Do you use this principal in every aspect of life?

Right. So the guy installing alarms thanks the person saying they are pointless. mdf290, you are an enigma.

Am I "the poster"? Jamming is hard to protect against, but there are systems that make it difficult to do. Good systems also make other attacks hard. Companies like Texecom and Pyronix have actually improved their systems in the last 10 years. What diatribe is this?

Oh, cheers, seems my guess was right then.

The new post notification I just got must be the result of JohnD copying and pasting the same crap again.

I think you are missing the point. Consumers can buy good and bad equipment for similar prices. The bad stuff is really bad. People should know how bad. The same issues these ungraded alarms have extend through to the higher grades of wired alarms.

YALEs new EASYFIT alarms oh dear

Sorry, I don't understand your point. Is this meant to contradict something I have said? I came here because my blog was linked to from PMs. I'm trying to work out if you are being facetious or serious. If serious, I don't really see any point continuing a discussion because you've taken...

Why do you assume he doesn't have any other means of finding this out? Why is this different to a video about lock picking? Not sure why you have said this, I think my work on alarm systems is pretty ground-breaking. I've not seen anyone else recover encryption keys from locked...

They aren't my points, and if you say they are, you are either lying or delusional. You don't seem to have anything useful to add, so bye for now.

Ah. The £5 thing is a common post it seems.

You mean those two points of yours aren't your opinion? What are they then?

To respond specifically to your points: 1. I believe that criminals may start to use more advanced techniques against alarm systems. Trust me - these issues are not limited to ungraded wireless alarms. 2. Why is showing how I can jam an alarm I own educating someone on how to commit...

Hah, that's not how Honeywell responded to me. Thanks for the useful input though, it's good to see that others believe in vulnerability disclosure.

It's lovely that you can say the same thing again and again without actually responding to any questions.

There's no doubt lock picking has improved lock security over the last 100 years. Why is "picking" alarms any different?

    In response to Bernard Green

John, You can't have it both ways. If you believe jamming isn't a real risk, why is showing it being done a bad thing? Yale have been informed of the issues with their alarms and have chosen to not respond. People buying alarms should be made aware than many of the security...

I've been told repeatedly that no one would ever jam am alarm. You've said the same thing. So what possible harm could it cause?

    In response to Bernard Green

I know alarms can be defeated - it's what I do. I think it should be published in the open. Just because something hasn't happened in the past doesn't mean it never will. It's a ridiculous perspective to have.

The same people who are saying that jamming alarms is ridiculous are saying that posting a video on a bypass is morally wrong.
