Used the Rubbol BL Satura today on outside window frames. What a doddle to use and the finish is superb! Is it available in colours? Sikkens web site does mention this but I can only find the oil based version Plus coloured. dcdec, mine is w/based but still called Rubbol?

AURO UK - natural organic paints and finishes

Yup, he was spinning me a yarn, I guess mixing small 1 litre cans is too much hassle for him. On the upside I had a good recommendation for this paint (admittedly from the seller); http://www.osmouk.com/previewpage.cfm?bookid=book001&chapter=5&page=115 It's a bit of a hybrid as not...

AURO UK - natural organic paints and finishes

I went to the Johnstones paint centre today - Helpful chap explained the problem of using the Aqua range is the u/c or primers only come in white and cannot be tinted (not enough room in the can). You can buy a 1 litre of gloss which can be coloured but it may require four coats to cover...

    Brush choice

I used those B & Q ones as above. Very good, excellent finish on oil based gloss with low drag and finer brush marks. Best brush so far out of Harris Smooth Glide and Hamilton Perfection.

    Thinning Paint.........Advise Please

Sorry, when I say mixing it was one of those mini gloss roller trays where I added a drop then pushed it back and forth. Will a brush suck out the white spirit?

    Thinning Paint.........Advise Please

Question; Does as paint brush act as a wick soaking up white spirit? Answer; Yes, this had me puzzled as I couldn't understand why white spirit was dripping constantly from my brush when inverted. I thoroughly cleaned and dried brushes with paper towels ect but then used the brush to mix...

AURO UK - natural organic paints and finishes

I had a look at the Mythic range but couldn't find a product suitable for wood, most seemed to be for walls? There's a UK supplier/manufacture called Green Paints which are priced at or below their oil based equivalents. I have narrowed it down to three, Auroa, Green Paints or Earthborne...

AURO UK - natural organic paints and finishes

We are looking to use some of these paints for inside, on walls, skirting and ceilings. I did a quick search but only came up with wallpaper paste, so I guess not many have used them? Gloss is a bit pricey..aaaahhhmm Any feedback appreciated, cheers http://www.auro.co.uk/index.php

what the hell is happening with paints these days?

I agree, the satin look has a classy look to it, also if the gloss is applied poorly (as in my front door :() it can look awful. As we are doing the whole house at some point the internal doors will need doing. The house is fairly modern, built in 05, the doors look factory spray painted...

    Brush choice

I thought the following maybe worth a mention. Although I have yet to try them they feel a tad softer than any of the Hamilton brushes I have at the moment (bristle and synthetic) http://reviews.diy.com/2191-en_gb/9254742/reviews.htm B & Q have an odd pricing policy (or a mistake). A 2"...

    Thinning Paint.........Advise Please

Doh!! Double Doh!! :D I didn't think to get a different colour u/c - that's the difference between a professional and rank amateur. What do you do about painting gloss on gloss, oil based - brush doesn't seem to want to leave paint behind? How long before I sand back this...

    Thinning Paint.........Advise Please

Ahh slight problem encountered. All was going well when painting gloss onto an under coated surface. Thinning the paint worked well giving a mirror like finish with one coat of Dulux non drip b/w. The front door (hardwood stained) has been rubbed down and primed twice, togther with two...

    Thinning Paint.........Advise Please

I am sure it's had tons of views, and tbh no one really needs to ask anything else as it's all there 8) I see what you mean about the stipple effect on the roller. It leaves an almost satin finish on the undercoat that I have done so far, very easy to apply the right amount too. I...

    Thinning Paint.........Advise Please

This is such a helpful post - thanks for taking the time to impart your knowledge. I have spent a lot of time rubbing out brush marks from primer and undercoat. Today I tried thinning the undercoat with w/s - what a difference! No more brush marks and the paint goes on so much easier...

    Paint brush storage

Thanks, I might look at the smaller Brushmate. Will paraffin restore my brushes at all? The synthetic one is ok after a bit more cleaning but the pure bristle still has small flakes high up in the bristles. Ta
