    Strange Purlin Support

I noticed in a relatives loft a purlin support method I've never seen before. The property is Victorian era. The purlins sit on brick corbels each end. But instead of the usual vertical struts (as the purlin sits verticle.) supporting the purlin along its span there are 2 x 4" braces that sit...

    Corner Bath Surround

Hello I'm trying to tidy up my bathroom a bit. One thing I really could do with replacing is the surround for my corner bath. It's all faded & cracked. But I have no idea where to get one? Not sure what brand the bath is either. Anyone have any advice? Thanks

    Damp in chimney breast and wall - photos . . . . . . . . . .

Could easily be salt damp. It's something not alot of people know about and end up spending lots of hard earned cash trying different things. Get a humidifier and leave it running and see if the patches get worse. I had mysterious stains in my house. It turned out to be hygroscopic salts in plaster

    Wet plaster smell

If its also an old property with solid walls they shouldn't be skimming the exterior walls with gypsum plasters. Ideally lime based plaster. Breathes ;)

    Wet plaster smell

Could well be hygroscopic salts in your plaster. My lounge has patches that appear through the wall paper on humid days.... check Peter ward out on YouTube... he knows his stuff!
