    Textured concrete pavers

What are the experiences of members using these pavers from the likes of Bradstone and Marshall? They are made from natural stone aggregates, which give a more natural surface texture in a paver that is all same size etc. Do they stay cleaner than something like sandstones?

    Cast stone cills

All our windows have cast stone cills, about 60 years old now. They have blackened with algae and when it rains the window lower edge gets splattered with black grime. I imagine that this is from the cills. I was going to give them a good chemical clean and then seal. Any suggestions on a...

    How to fix this?

Great minds think alike! I was thinking along those lines as well. I was also thinking to make a horizontal cut just below the hole, that means I don't touch or go near the DPC. Thanks, I think I have a handle on it!

    How to fix this?

It's a large block and my spare is not big enough to fill. However.....once we all get back to work I can go to the people who still make these blocks and get a whole one that fits. TBH I hadn't really thought about replacing the whole block. I have a mortar line chisel for the SDS, that would...

    How to fix this?

Hole in the wall that once had the dryer outlet fitted. I have some of the original precast blocks and some suitable white cement + sand. I'm just wondering best way to fill the hole. Just mortar or cut some chunks off the spare block? If just plain mortar, best way to stop it slumping out...

    Any solutions for this?

It's a 60's house with inner skin of 'concrete block'. We had some work done and the builder said he'd never come across anything so hard! I guess they were the so called breeze block. I also have a few wood plugs, so I could use them instead of filler.

    Any solutions for this?

No luck there. Have to do it from above.

    Any solutions for this?

I used toupret, maybe that’s why. I think I’ll look at paintable silicone. Thanks.

    Built in spirit level.

I'm not up on current insulation regs, but aren't those wads of rockwool going to impede airflow?

    Any solutions for this?

Just had the stairs and walls painted, there was a crack along the wall where staircase meets wall and I filled that before painting. Now the crack has reappeared and I'm wondering what would be a good longterm solution. There is no access under the stairs, so I have been thinking to use a few...

NHS 111 seems to be struggling dealing with Covid19

Just wait until we get 10k cases a day.....mushroom clouds seen over Stevenage (or wherever 111 call centre located)

    Has anyone seen this?

That was my immediate thought when I saw the pitting. Maybe that's why HG replaced it without too much effort, they had had a string of complaints on similar small parts. Just goes to show that top brands like HG have issues.

    Has anyone seen this?

I didn't clean it off. It felt rough to the touch so I unscrewed it and then noticed the chrome had been eaten through in places. When I unscrewed it I did notice a lot of debris that looked like small particles of solder, caught in the filter. Then out of curiosity, I looked at the tap in the...

    Panic and scare mongering

Air Dryers in Public Toilets Before this virus hit the news, my own hand washing regime was minimal in public toilets (now i am super careful, even avoiding public toilets where ever possible). I suspect I am not unusual in this area. If an asymptomatic infected person goes into a public toilet...

    Panic and scare mongering

Wear gloves outside, obviously don't touch face, but carry a pack of tissues with you and when you feel the urge to scratch, blow nose etc, use the tissue as a barrier between your hands and your face, then dispose away from your person. Then once you get home, remove gloves and wash hands...

    Panic and scare mongering

Yes pneumonia is the prime cause of death with this virus. Another wrong word again, when I wrote 'prevention' I was unsure that was the correct term. But oxygen, ICU's etc are a way to prevent more deaths than would happen without. COVID19 case histories have shown that given oxygen via the...

    Panic and scare mongering

I should have omitted the word 'thought' and said that Japan has an excellent health care system.

    Panic and scare mongering

You can say that about a lot of western health care systems. I thought Japan had a really good system, but they were struggling to make enough tests for the virus. The Gov here should be making the moves right now to make as much space in hospitals available for isolation wards. Maybe they are...

    Has anyone seen this?

I had a new bathroom fitted a few months ago, old house so a lot of new plumbing. We used Hansgrohe taps and fittings. After a couple of months, I noticed that the end of the tap spout (it screws off to reveal the aerator etc) had corrosion on the chrome surface most in contact with the water. I...

    Panic and scare mongering

First off, loads of misinformation in this thread. So here are some facts derived from research on COVID 19 and other similar viruses. Anti-bac wipes contain a powerful disinfectant, similar to Dettol. Plenty of studies have been done on similar viruses, how long they remain on different...
