Ripped off by plumbing charges......please help

Thanks mate, I know your not trying to be funny and I respect your comments but we all run our businesses our own way. I don't for a minute think you would charge someone, especially a 89 year old pensioner, £600 to repair his boiler even if you had psent four or five hours on the job, I...

Air in boiler - is plumber giving me the runaround?!

If they are the 'gate' type then just try to turn the spindles on the end both valves anti-clock wise but go easy cause if they are open then forcing them will snap them however if they are the ballofix type then there is a slot on the valve for a large flat screwdriver to open or close, in the...

    potterton boiler help

Red light flashing is more than likely the PCB, especially if it's the original/old one that's open. Certainly flashing red light is a boiler problem, solid red light is external, pump, room stat, motorised valves etc. For a cheap option replacing the thermistor and the high limit stat...

Air in boiler - is plumber giving me the runaround?!

Sounds plausible. Still think it's a circulation problem, first thing I would have done would have been to change the pump.

Ripped off by plumbing charges......please help

I hear what your saying mate and fully understand where your coming from I don't however know you from Adam except from your postings on this site where you've been good enough in the past to help me and others out with good advice so I don't for a minute believe you would charge the amount that...

Ripped off by plumbing charges......please help

Exactly, I also charge a diagnostic charge which includes an assessment of the cost of the repair/s and then the customer has the option as Tony say's above. The most I've ever charged for a boiler repair has been about £500 but that included two parts and a boiler breakdown in one of the...

Ripped off by plumbing charges......please help

It's called looking after your customers and having a conscience. I do it to give the customer a chance of getting the boiler repaired cheaper than I can afford to do it for. £600 to replace a plate heat exchanger on a (how old?) boiler is outrageous when there's no need for a customer to...

Air in boiler - is plumber giving me the runaround?!

I would change the pump as a matter of course. Has you man checked that there's a feed an expansion tank for the heating in the loft and if there is, is there water in it?

Ripped off by plumbing charges......please help

All of the personal stuff aside of course your father's been overcharged. £600 to repair a boiler is outrageous. Any decent guy would have put your father onto the manufacturer for a Fixed Price repair if they thought cost of repair was going to be in that region or advised to replace the...

That boiler is a very good boiler but make sure that whoever installs it is a WBAI then you'll have a six year manufacturer's warranty on it non WBAIs only get three years manufacturer's warranty. The warranty is part of a WB summer promotion that only runs until the end of August 2011...

Air in boiler - is plumber giving me the runaround?!

Sounds to me like the pump has gone or there is no or very little water in the system.

    BT call divert

Hi guys, I've now got a 'fault' with my caller divert thanks to a BT engineer who called to check a line fault in my house today, see my other thread below. I am now if the hell that is BT's fault help line at 151  Before the engineer (sic) arrived today my call divert worked...

    Poss strange BT land-line fault

Here's an update for those who are interested. The OpenReach engineer has just left after having checked my line which he said was fine however he managed to convince himself that my phone was faulty (it isn't) and that I was setting my diverts wrong (I'm not) so he got the engineer at the...

    Poss strange BT land-line fault

Thanks mate but the three numbers I've saved are all in different areas of the city in fact they are miles away from each other. The BT engineer seems to think it's something to do with the divert system in the exchanges. He's said that my line is perfect.

    Poss strange BT land-line fault

Thanks mate that sounds plausible the only thing is the three people I've managed to talk to after being called by thier 'equipment' have all said that they currently have/had a fault on thier line and that no one from thier house called me. I had one madman who threatened me with severe...

    Poss strange BT land-line fault

Hi guys, apologies in advance if this has been asked before but I appear to have a really strange fault with my BT line. I run my own business from home and as a result I have quite a lot of incoming calls. I also have caller ID. My land-line has been diverted for years and years...
