I can work out the economics on that as well as anyone! So just to be clear (as Aquas post was slightly ambiguous ie was the £140hr for only hob fitting or was it for work generally) £140 is a reasonable charge per hr for undertaking work in a domestic customers home?

what make and type of stain are you using? if from the sheds, its likely water based. Is it building up on the face of the edge of the shelf or the top corner of the edge? Also what are the shelves made of?

well, I have a clear horizontal run of 15mm copper pipe 100mm long between the joints staring me in the face at the rear inside of the cabinet so presume he could have fitted it there but he could have refigured it anyway giving plenty of room for one IMO

No! at last!! hole cut, hob fitted/ sealed and screwed down prior. Everything visible. He did spend 30mins trying to undo the end cap on the gas pipe from the wall before giving up and saying he couldnt do it because the carcase was preventing proper access so I jumped up and cut a bigger hole...

if an isolation valve isnt needed then so be it. I asked gas safe if it had to be fitted and they said yes, same question on here , same answer. So do I now not need one after all? If so thats fine though I can see the advantage of having one ie isolate the hob without isolating the whole house....
