    Fence is falling down!

Right, managed to find a large solid steel L shaped bracket and this has propped it up properly  I'm now thinking of just replacing the gate with a wooden one and then replacing the fence next year. If you look at the picture above, I'm assuming I would need to buy another...

    Mixed up neutral and live

No, the old connections weren't enclosed, it just had black tape wrapped around! To be honest, I didn't even think about any ratings, I just thought it was a method for joining two cables, I'll check tonight though, would a cooker hood be any set rating or would I need to look for that...

    Mixed up neutral and live

This is what the previous owner had used... I think it's the same thing you use to join speaker wiring together (although mine looks a fraction bigger), i've pulled it out and have re-wired it properly in a junction box which is enclosed. Happy days  Cheers

    Mixed up neutral and live

Lol, it looks a bit bigger than one of those, only way of describing it. Or am I totally lost and it's actually a speaker type one? I'll just swap it over tonight.

    Mixed up neutral and live

Thanks for putting my mind at rest chaps, been having "visions" :| Also, previous homeowner used one of those boxes (same for joining speaker wire), I also have a spare black round junction box, is one better than the other?

    Mixed up neutral and live

Ok thanks, i'll put it back the right way when I finish work, I didn't think about it at the time as it worked and I thought if it was wired wrong that it wouldn't power on. As mentioned, the cooker hood itself is powered off, but the fused switch on the wall is at the ON position, would this...

    Mixed up neutral and live

Installing a new cooker hood in my kitchen. The old wiring is RED and BLACK, the new wiring is BLUE and BROWN. So I remembered the plugs wiring and brown was LIVE and blue was NEUTRAL, so I wired it up this way and nothing worked, so I tried it the other way round and still nothing. Then...

Just about to move in our first house and can't really afford a new fence until next year so was hoping to just fix the old one if possible  The problem is with the fence posts as you can tell from the picture, it looks like they've only been put in a few cm  This is...

Living room lights turn on by themselves

I have two lights in my living room, controlled by two dimmer switches. I have installed one of those Varilight remote touch dimmers (master), and another one which is the slave unit. Both operate exactly as they should. Strange this is, if I turn all the lights out, then return home a...

    First garden

Hi All, Below is a picture of my back garden (first house), it looks a bit odd because I had to take two pics and merge them together (couldn't fit it on one pic)... Anyway, I plan to re-do the garden with as little money as possible and by keeping it simple. So far I have knocked...

Hi all, I am wanting to spruce up my wooden window handles, they are made of metal and are like a green/gold colour, looks cack! They are this kind of design... I have removed a set, have sanded, primed, painted (all with spray can stuff) and it has come out good. I have quite a...
