Agreed - instructions suggest 30cm (1 ft) radius. It is just a case of how to do this without kinking or twisting.

First or second, you are both right. The screw was holding the two contacts together. I have backed it off one turn and the bell continuously rings - hoorah!! Many thanks :wink:

Trying to resurrect the doorbell in our new (victorian) home. Located the transformer and more obviously the door bell button and chime. Pressing the button rings the bell once. What am I missing? Should there be some form of relay (like a flasher unit on a car hazards lights)? I...

Mantle is also cast iron and it's approx 1/4 inch (6mm) thick - so barely thick enough to drill blind holes into/tap.

I could support it with discreet brackets but (as the mantle is essentially smooth underneath) there is nothing to hold it in place. It could be simply lifted off or more worrying fall off if knocked.

Area is approx 3x2 foot. Appears to have been skimmed smooth (as part of repair). Located along edge of a room (above bed and on same wall as door). It's not massively noticeable but would like to improve/repair if possible. Thanks in advance for your help
