New Wooden Headboard Needs Split In 2 Professionally, Joiner Or DIY?

Cut it along the joint lines , then refix with either dowels or slip tenons. You may "lose" a few mm off the height but you won't have any visible cuts when you put it back together. However , I'd be tempted not to glue it back together as you'll have to go through the whole rigmarole to get it...

How to dispose of old tools?

Going off topic a bit but I've had a couple of heatguns that stopped working. I found the answer in one at least was to bypass the switch , lasted a year or two longer after that.

How to dispose of old tools?

eBay Seriously I've put small job lots of broken tools on eBay and sold them. Just describe them accurately , spares or repairs and list the faults.

    Mandela Effect

Funny how it makes one look. All the VW badges I've seen today are like yours IHMJ , nothing different and certainly nothing with that little extra triangle seen in the video. Googling the Mandela effect it seems it comes from people supposedly thinking he had died in prison and likewise mis...

    More threads vanishing

I use a number of forums ( 6 as a member and probably 3 or 4 where I just visit) although I'm not a moderator on any. If I were to be honest I'd say this forum is probably the most "belligerent " shall we say , there's certainly more arguments and personal insulting than I've seen on others but...

    Perks of the job?

I've collected scrap for years, all sorts , lead , copper , aluminium , steel , brass , zinc and I've even took buckets of bent and damaged stainless nails and screws to the yard. I also pick up offcuts which get used for jobs or heat the house. Anything decent from toilet pans to rope ladders...

Would you buy a used hospital bed for your home?

Just asked this question to the other half and we both fall into the maybe category . The side rails as I understand drop down out of the way and I'm not sure of the mattress size issue so can't comment on that aspect. From my limited experience hospital beds seem to me to be higher than...

    Mathematical Challenge !

I'm not 100% sure of your methodology but you just might be onto something . I'd hazard a guess but I don't think he used a cement mixer and a lorry load of gravel but he did use mathematics for predictions...

Putting up shelves. Wood to use?

Airing cupboard shelves are commonly constructed with 2x1 to allow ventilation , although how that fully works when it's piled with clothes I'm not sure. I'd go with the ply suggestion but if you intend to go with mdf I'd beef it up to 25mm.

    Sharing birthdays

You might be a little out as I seem to recall births aren't uniform throughout the year but I get your point. Perhaps the pertinent question is how many of those 1/365th do you even know and would want to spend your birthday with.

    Selling to a reclamation yard?

I've taken stuff to a rclaimation yard in the past , doors , panelling tiles and what have you. As said you may only get pennies for the stuff , they don't pay a fortune despite what a lot of them seem to charge. Also to note is that things go in and out of fashion. I recently took a cast iron...

    Household tips and DIY waste

Our council is rated as one of the better ones in the country and I still think there's enormous room for improvement so what the worst performing councils must be like hardly bears thinking about. Like some on here I don't like waste. My father worked at a tip/incinerator and was constantly...

    Household tips and DIY waste

If I relied on filling the bin with my own rubbish then mine wouldn't go out for months at a time. Most goes in the recycling or is composted or goes on the fire. My bin is normally full of other people's rubbish , stuff I've cleaned up on jobs , sorted first and then thrown away the absolute...
